Apple Tablet: iPad

Multi-tasking will be here with OS 4, as mentioned earlier in this thread. Not sure why you need a usb port if it's in the car. I can see at home, when you sync it with your home computer. If the reason is for pictures, they have an adapter.

I like the ram mounts, and I think an audio cord zip tied to it would complete it.

And OS 3 does limited multitasking. As long as you stay within Apple core apps you have multitasking. Yes, this is lame; I just mention it for the sake of completeness.

Regarding car installs, I imagine that companies are working on an adapter that fits the iPad connector to provide power and links to a variety of head ends. The iPad connector is supposed to be the same as the iPhone, but the iPad requires more DC power than the smaller devices.

There is a rumour floating around that Apple is working on their own car connector kit. It'll have to be pretty generic so I wouldn't wait around for it if you have something in mind already.

wifi calls

For what it's worth, just a heads up that with the Line2 app from Toktumi, you can make phone calls to and receive calls from any number right over your wifi on the ipad. Can use the mic and speakerphone, a wired headset with mic or a bluetooth headseat.

I installed it last week and it worked perfectly - on a 30 day trial right now. Cool stuff, but not sure I'll continue after the trial just yet. Have a real iphone for calls, but nice to know you can do it.

And if you fly Airtran, Delta or anyone else with GoGo wifi, it WILL work inflight as well as a cell phone does on the ground. I'm sure the airlines and the flight attendants will freak out though if they see you making a call even though it's not using cellular...

As an aside, I used my iPad's spotty wifi signal at home (worked great elsewhere on wifi) as an excuse to replace my 10 year old Microsoft wireless router with a new D-Link Dir-655 B/G/N Extreme Gigabit Router. Signal is much stronger, wider, and faster throughout my house and my iPad issues went away at home. Didn't even have to rename the B/G/N networks separately as some suggest for the iPad issue...

Apple announced 4/19 that delivery of the iPad with 3G and WiFi will be delayed a bit. People who placed pre-orders before today will receive the 3G model by the end of the month. Orders placed today will be filled by 5/7. Apple announced previously that delivery to countries outside USA will be delayed until late May.

The question is: Are the delays due to some sort of problem in production, like a parts shortage, or is demand so high that production can't keep pace? Most observers think it's the latter.
