Alright........I'll hold my nose and do it.

Bliiiiiiiiiiiing!!!

I'll post an after shot of "no bling" soon. The style of the wheels doesn't bother me, I can always powder over the chrome. The main issue is that they're 18's.

glad you found a new one quick! i have gone thru that with carfax and the state, my truck was totaled at one point, for being stolen and partly striped, not wrecked. but they stole the plates off it, when i picked it up from impound 4 months later i went down to the DOL and got new plates. either the state or the insurance company forgot to file the paper work because it still had a fresh title a couple years later when i sold it. i did tell the new owner that it had been totaled tho. so carfax is really useless unless there is work performed at a shop that reports to carfax

I'd say buy a set of steelies from a junkyard and get your new tires, then sell the 18's on CL for whatever you can get. It's insane the amount of money people will pay for those ridiculous wagon wheels, but hey, it could very well pay for your other wheels and the tires!

You don't even need to get steelies. I got my set of alloy 4Runner 16" rims on CL for $40. I've seen plenty of others go for less than $100.

I was given $1500 for the wheels and tires, so I picked up a set of used Tacoma wheels and ordered some new tires. I did not want to pony up for BFG's or Goodyear Wranglers right now and settled for some Nitto Terra Grapplers (265/75's). I've heard arguments back and forth in the vs. dept, so I will see for myself how they stack up!

Nitto Terra Grapplers............Blah.

Yesterday I got my new Terra Grapplers on some Taco wheels, so I thought I'd take the 4runner up for some shots in the snow. (Pictures later today)
The first thing I notice is that these tires have a balancing issue. They were nice and smooth until I was getting on to the freeway and from 55-70 they really shake the wheel. This is a bad first impression, especially since I'm used to mud tires.
The next disappointment was when I hit the packed snow. I thought this would be a good place for them to redeem themselves but.............................no! It was like riding on a set of ice skates.
I specifically said I wanted my pressure set at 32 but thought I check to make sure. 32 on all 4!. On a slight grade these tires could not climb in 2wd and barley in 4wd. I had to back up the flat and get momentum to get up the hill. I aired down to 20 and finally some action.
Seriously, I could of done just as well in a '78 Datsun 2wd with bald tires.

I heard people rave about these tires and many would swear by them over the BFG A/T's.
So either those people have never had BFG's or, and this probably is correct, it really matters how wet the snow is. Here in the PNW, west of the Cascades the snow wet and heavy, and too much for NTG's. But I have run BFG A/T's, MT KM1's and 2's in all conditions and all have been superior so far. For now the NTG's are down but not out. I have a high desert trip planned in 2 weeks and maybe they shine in the dryer region, or maybe they just need a good trip to break them in. We'll see.

I had the same experience with Nitto TG's. Slip n slide all up the snowy canyon. Felt VERY squirrelly. With my BFG KO's, I've not had any problems thus far.

I did a few simple mods yesterday. I removed the ghetto stone guard on the hood, and had some rubbing issues on the front with these tires so removed the running boards as well.
Is it me or do the Limited's sit a little lower than the SR5's? My previous '99 seemed to sit a little higher. No matter, a lift is in the near future.

Taco wheels look good on there.
Thanks, but I don't think they're staying on long. I'm picking up a set of Mojave's today:wings: I think I'll run the Nitto's on the Mojave wheels until they wear out and buy some MT's of some kind on the Taco wheels. I'll just use the Nitto's as a DD tire and the MT's as s trail tire.

So I picked up a set of Mojave wheels and as many of you have experienced the teflon is quite weak and this set is no different and they have some rock wear. I picked them up pretty cheap but they need some TLC.
I sand blasted off the teflon and will try to sand out as much of the big dings as possible. If the box of teflon I ordered comes in I should have them finished today. I'll experiment on a set of junk rims and see how heavy I can spray the teflon on. Dupont says 2-3 mils but I'm going to try and double that.

Wish me luck!
