Are rear tire carriers essential?

Here is a closer look at the latch Pat used on mine. I like them better than the normal ones that are used. There is a step pin so they stay up if it is wanted. I think he got them from McMaster-Carr but I am not positive. I can find out if anyone is interested.

i strap mine in the back standing up but if your gunna get a custom bumper i would get a tire carrier cuz it will be out of the way and give you more space just dont get one that mounts to your body panels sooner or later the body panels wil begin to give(i had one and my tailgate started spliting)
