Looks great so far, this is after one coat, Ended up doing a second coat and a few touch ups. The cans are about 18 a pop so I want to be conscious about how much I'm using but I also don't want to skimp.

I'm working on the bottom side of it now, which while it had more widespread flaking and corrosion it wasn't nearly as deep. I guess that fluid film really helped out.

Got the truck packed up with fishing supplies now and will be headed out in the morning, so hoping to finish this up by midnight so I can get about 6 hours down.

Buddha.

Finally in expo white.
Cleaned the bottom side of the truck after going thru some brackish waters.

Ended up applying fluid film black. Definitely looks better on the frame bits.

Then ended up adding new 10.9 hardware on the rear shocks and installed skid plates.

Tomorrow is pulling the tank skid and cleaning it off and applying some steel it.

If I have time I'll pull the side steps too. Clean them and apply some bed liner from a can.
I used over a gallon of fluid film black on my truck so far. It looks a lot better on the Chevy with the way the frame sticks down so much.

With the price of the cans I think the next step is to just bite the bullet and get a sprayer.
Yep, I’ve done both.
The sprayer sometimes struggles if the goo is too cold, maybe less than 70f. The last time I did it I opened up the nozzle wide open and cranked the psi way higher than recommended.
I put that stuff on THICC.
Make sure you wear clothes you don’t mind trashing and wear some kind of mask. It’s non toxic but when I did it unmasked I breathed in so much I felt like I had a chest cold for a couple days.

That's a pretty sweet fishing trolley! Did you catch anything? I never seem to have any luck shore fishing.
Never got a chance to even try this year. I really wanted to try out the fishing gear my better half got me for my bday over winter.
New soft tackle box, lures, cabelas carry case and bite alert rod. She spoiled me!

Don't worry in this Florida weather my garage is easily above 90F. I think my most immediate issue for a sprayer is that my gifted air compressor (which I am very grateful for) is probably starting to get to its absolute limits as far as capacity. Next air compressor tank will be the biggest mobile tank I can afford, so probably 26 to 32.

I have 2 sets of jeans that a re solely for working on cars these days, they have been patched and mended and stained too many times to count. They're great.

The other upside of spraying my own fluid film is that I can dye it black with powder. I really like the fluid film black for the frame. I know all lanolin based turns black after a while.

We were catching all the bait fish you could ever want, threw a few on my big rod and hoped they would entire a big fish maybe even a small black tip. But nothing seemed terribly interested. There were plenty of fish out there; we had a few run of rays and had some passing dolphins and turtles, and I think I spotted a large shark.

I'm not buying another Raptor.......for now.

The pictures didn't load when I first replied. I think that shirt actually belongs to me! Thats a really nice setup they got you, and of course nice bike.

I'll eventually get a bike.

Man, that sounds like a great time! Not a day to fish off the jet ski? Would've been very cool to see all that sea life.

Hmm... maybe a Tremor then? :ROFLMAO:

What kind of bike do you think you'd get? That my 1st one. Just got it and my bike license this past May.

It was fun for sure. Got there early and got a solid 6 or 7 hours in before the sun started being too much for us, plus there plans to meet up with friends for sunday night football. No time for the jetski lately. I joined a club down this way and its full of retirees who are like "Our next run is gonna be Tuesday at 8 AM!" and the other group is all guys who just care about speed "Oh your ski does 77? Well mine does 81! well not right now, I overboosted it and blew the headgasket."

I have only taken it out once since I got here and that was just to use up some of the fuel so it doesn't go skunky on me. I'm actually planning on a nice 2 hour ride with some friends on Saturday. Easy ride out, couple hours at a sand bar, then easy ride back in. Weather permitting of course. I've just come to accept that early afternoon showers are part of the day, but when I'm out on the water I want to be extra cautious.

I had a deposit on a Kawasaki KLR650s and I had test rode one, the difference between the KLR and the S model is staggering. I'm not terribly short (5'9 or 5'10 in boots, which for bikes actually matters) but these adventure bikes have me on my tippy toes so having a bike thats like... an inch and a quarter lower is perfect. Especially since realistically they won't be taken super gnarly trails, its not a dual sport. Anyways I digress, I had a deposit while I was in Michigan, bike never showed between April and July when I left so I pulled my deposit, got down here and was told the wait was until the 2024 models start coming in so probably a few more months... Despite what the dealer wanted, I decided to hold off.

And another wrench in my gears was that somehow in the last 10 years my endorsement dropped. I had it in Hawaii, and switched from a Michigan license to a Hawaii license to reflect it, then switched back to a Michigan license but by this time I was no longer riding so I don't think I checked. Because I just got my Florida License and they said I had no record of an endorsement... So I will have to get into a class before too long. I'll wait until December or January to knock that out.\\

I don't want a Tremor. Its a good truck, but I'm good. Raptor R or F250 with Godzilla. Maybe a Bronco... Raptor. I need my VA check to hit.

I looked close at a KLR as well. Ended up wanting more than a single cylinder for highway travel though.

Yes, ADV bikes do seem to be a bit taller. (I'm 6'1 w/ 34" inseam and I find my bike tall) That being said a lot of ADV bikes can have the suspension lowered. Another option is a lot of them have a factory option of a low seat.

I'm not taking mine on gnarly single tracks either. I wanted something that would be decent on the freeway / city and on light dirt roads.
(Something even my truck could go one) Stuff kind of like this:

I don't blame ya, a thumper engine isn't the most comfortable or the most efficient (though it has good enough gas mileage). The other thing I didn't like is the gauge cluster still doesn't indicate what gear you're in. You'd think that would be baseline standard amentities.

I have tried a few bikes with shaved seats and it wasn't as comfortable but I would consider that as an option on a nicer bike. A lot of those bikes with suspension lowering kits don't come from the factory like that, and I seem to recall reading that this created some amount of (small) issues with ride and geometry.

I want to exploring state routes, country routes, hard pack dirt roads and forest service roads. I'm not planning on bombing around dunes on a big adv like that. Also a part time commuter as anything is better than 12 mpg.

Those pictures are awesome! I'm jealous!

Should be a few good options out there for you. Sit on a few and see what you think. Sounds like you want to do similar rides as me.

Figured it would also be fun to take along a telescopic fishing rod and pitstop and try out some tucked away fishing holes.

I'm jealous of those pics too! Those were from a couple public land use zones about 4 hours south of me near the Rockies.
Saw them on another forum I'm on.
