Hey everyone, if you have always wanted to pit in a SCORE Baja race, now is your chance. If you sign-up, please make sure you have above average mechanical experience (can you do a tune-up on your own vehicle for example).

Here are the pits:

Pit One: Brian Dearmon, Pit Chief- Fuel

1. Al Walter
2. Robb
3.
4.

Pit Two: Kevin Speicher- Main Driver Change Pit, Fuel. Kevin does have part of his Corona Racing team helping with this pit.

1. Kevin Speicher
2. Brett Garland
3. Mike Shorrt
4. Nick Naiman
5. Verny Carvajal

Chris / Scott: Driver Change

Pit Three: Jonathan Hanson- Fuel

Please understand that the location details will come very late in the game, as that is the nature of things. You will be camping out at the pits. Others are also welcome to come along and camp, but please respect the Pit Chiefs instructions and keep the pit clear when the race truck arrives.

Please make sure you can commit to being there as the team will be counting on your help.

We will also be pre-running the weekend of the 25-27th. Most likely on Moto's

It will be such an honor to have ExPo members in the pits! :sombrero:

Scott,

I don't have the best mechanics skills, but usually can get by. I'd be willing to fill in if you have trouble in manning all positions.

I believe I should be able to help out. Although I am not a GREAT mechanic - I do all repairs and maintenance on my truck by myself, but that's about it. I know we never met and I know you might have more prepared and more familiar people volunteer to help as well, but in case you don't have enough helpers definitely let me know. Either way I am definitely planning to go watch Baja 500.

It sounds like a great opportunity! I've always wanted to go to Baja, and as an added bonus, it's my favorite adventure partner's, Sean (devinsixtyseven), birthday a week after the race! We are both interested in going. Sean's a great mechanic and would make a great addition to any of the pit crew teams. Only downside is that my mechanic skills are nonexistent.

:Mechanic:

We're coming from Denver, but we'll try to make it out. I might be able to spring for some tickets or pay for a lotta gas. WE'll let you know my the end of the month if we can make it. It's his birthday so I'd be willing  Maybe I can have Sean teach me some basic mechanic skills so I can help, if not I'll help lead the cheering section :luxhello:

If I'm a great mechanic, it's only because I've messed up so many times along the way that I finally learned something :smilies27

We're definately interested in helping, if we can.

Al, you know you are always welcome in my pit (camp...whatever). You always have the coolest, best outfitted, roll-up table in camp.:friday:

It would be good to see you again!

If there is trouble manning a quality team let me know. I'd love to tag along and have lots of friends that follow Baja that work on their own cars here in town that wouldn't mind coming along. In fact one guy has done 3 engine swaps just in the last year on his RX-7...along with tranny swaps too...if you need some help i'll do my best to make it....

This is paramount to having a sucessful, injury free pitstop!

Anyone/Everyone is welcome to come to our pit, hang out, camp the night before, etc....

We will most likely be pitting 2 or 3 other cars as well (But getting Scotty to the podium is 1st Priority) so there will be a good amount of action in our pits!

All are welcome to come hang, but when a car pulls in, please respect the pit and keep it clear for the race vehicles!

PreRunning On Motos? HELL YES!! Count me in for sure: :roost:

This is also critical to a successful race!

I have been doing this for quite a few races and there is ALWAYS one or two folks that back out at the last minute with some lame excuse!

This can cause some big problems and last minute reorganizing nightmares! Pulling this stuff off requires a lot of logistics!

For Sure, the more the merrier!

Scotty,

I talked to Brian today about pit #1. I am 110% in on this one as I have already cleared it with the wife. And being that I'm his boss, I have a solid commitment from John North, you know him as Offroader5 on every other board on the net, and also as my standard wheeling partner in crime, and I also have a 90% commitment from Nate Werner, a co-worker and all around ************ wrencher/ desert racer dude. I'll be in the 60 with plenty of room for spares, tools, fuel and gear. And Nate is planning on bringing his Quad Cab Tacoma long travel prerunner to chase as needed.

I also noticed that the FJC was still in need of some cage work. Nate PM'd the guys from 4WDTO mag to let them know about our friends shop here in town. I know it's not SoCal but these guys can get it done... and done right.

Nate's prerunner is on the main page of their site. The entire build was done at R and H in Apache Junction.

As for the pits....what an opportunity. I sure wish I had the expertise to offer and the time/money to spare. Seriously something that would be remembered for the rest of your life.

Dang! I'm really interested. I need to see what the plans are at work and home around that time before I can commit though.

Any more information on what the schedule will be? Would we be meeting before hand to practice pit stops? How long before the race would we head down and how long before we got back? I've never been more than a mile into Mexico, so I'd definately like to tag along with someone if I go.

I can weld and wrench OK and I'm pretty decent with a sawzall if there are "clearance issues":hehe: I also have a generator if needed to run equipment with.

Ill be following this thread and Ill commit if I can.

Not sure on Scottys plans, but if you want practice, my tires need rotating! :victory:

That is one coveted piece of equipment down there! Bring it if ya can! If we cant use it, i am sure we can help others with it. People are always running around asking for one.
