Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Got together last night with Donny, who's always a torrent of ideas. We spent some time on the slide/kitchen design and his camping/foor prep experience was very helpful. I did this concept sketch this morning, it's a variation of one of the earlier designs with some refinements and includes input from Donny and some new ideas of my own.

I've rotated the fridge 180 degrees from the last concept to allow easy access to the contents from the driver's side. The fridge would be on a swivel, and would swivel to be in line with the slide for stowage. The table folds up against the fridge so when the fridge is stowed the table slides into the Jeep with it. The drawer pulls out from under the table and would store kitchen utensils, food prep items, etc. Mounted on the tailgate, the Storegate table serves as additional counter space. The storage compartment in the Storegate can be used for non-cold food items - bread, peanut butter, etc. There are also two cupholders and a small tray molded into the top of the Storegate that would be useful.

A 2.5-gallon Rubican with a spout could be mounted alongside the fridge; this would provide easy access to water. The table would fold up alongside the Rubican and everything would stow along with the fridge. When stowed, the spigot would still be accessible when the tailgate was opened, so water would be easily dispensed even when the kitchen was stowed. When the kitchen was deployed, a small sink could also be hung under the spigot for washing up. A drain hose from the sink could go into a "gray water" container placed underneath. I haven't drawn the sink/gray water container in this concept, you can use your imagination for that :).

Donny has a Tembo Tusk Skottle he swears by for cooking, so I've added one to this concept.

We measured Donny's ARB 50-quart fridge and it's the same width x depth as this Dometic 35-qt., just a few inches taller. So anything I design with this fridge will work with the ARB as well.

Donny has a cool pouch that attaches to the handle of his ARB and holds silverware, etc., so while I didn't draw that into the above concept either, one would be great on the handle of the fridge. It's empty now but you can see how it would be very handy.

Donny - we covered a lot of ground, including the MultiPod LED lighting system and the fiberglass Willys-style flat fenders, but did I miss anything important about the kitchen?

No I think you just about covered it all lol and yes I swear by my skottle. In fact the only other thing I carry at this time is a single burner for a pot. I cook everything on that skottle!! The pouch on the front of the ARB Fridge is a Blueridge overland pouch they make. It holds all my utensils as well as spices and seasoning.

Borrowed one of your ideas.

Leaving it filled upright overnight for a leak test, will flip it tomorrow for another leak test.

I plan to mount it under the Action Packer on the rack, Ill get better then half the gallon mounted and can pull it from the mount to get the rest and refill, it was also the only place I could mount it to get to the vent without putting to much leverage to the rack and tailgate.

Ill add a spigot and vent to the Rubican when it gets here and mount it to the front drivers fender mount when that gets here.

A while back I posted about an idea I had for door hinges to match the HD Tailgate Hinges I designed. I fabricated a prototype and showed the prototype to the company that makes the tailgate hinges. They liked the idea and signed up for it right away. Today I heard from them that preproduction versions are underway and should be ready by the time I meet with them again in less than two weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing how they've translated my prototype into a production product. My home-made prototype:

Are these intended as TJ hinges? I need to find a solution for my mis-aligned doors, I think that I may have tweaked the lower hinge on the D/S...

No, sorry, these are a direct bolt-on replacement for JK/JKU hinges. This photo shows the prototype before I painted it:

Jeff,

I'm impressed with the metal work!

I have an idea for a hinge based step I'd like to see come to life...

Thanks. I designed the hinges to be easy to fabricate so they could be manufactured affordably; as a result they were fairly easy for me to fabricate in my home workshop. The only reason I didn't make up a whole set of 8 was that I hoped MORryde would pick up the design and in the process of getting them into production they'd save me the trouble of making more and I'd end up getting a set from them :).

Is your hinge step idea different from the Kargo Master hinge steps? http://kmsafaristore.com/en/87-hinge-steps-pair.html If it is and you can describe your idea maybe I can make it come to life...

Love these @Jeff Looking forward to hearing more about these in the future. heh not sure I want to go through having to remove the dead bolt door locks I just installed.. matter of fast.. would the Tuffy dead bolts work with this setup?..

Don't know if the Tuffy locks would work with these, they'd have to be tested.

I should be getting preproduction sample hinges right after Memorial Day, I'll post photos when get them.

Mounted the water pack to the rack. Problem is the Action Packer or cooler needs to be pulled to get at the vent.

ETA: Turns out I can open the gate to get to the vent from the back.
