"RFDS" is the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
These emergency air strips are on the highway scattered across the Nullarbor.
ps... you can just see the 'keys' on the road in the distance and there are turn-around spots at each end for the aircraft which are usually Pilatus PC12 in South Australia.

They perform an extraordinary service for those who live, work or travel in remote areas of Australia.
I smashed a leg some years ago and was flown to a major hospital by the RFDS. It is a free service. There is no bill.
