bike rack on side of Flippac?

I'm wondering if it's possible to mount something similar to this on the side of a flippac, but without the flippac bearing any weight. Could something be retrofitted so that the weight of the bike is mainly on the bedrails, and any outward pressure be compensated by some plate that goes down into the truck bed and secured there through the wall of the bed or into the frame? The way this rack is set up now there is nothing that drops down into the bed, so any outward pressure is taken by the crossbars which wouldn't be possible with Flippac.

You wouldn't need to need to secure to the flippac other than for a small amount of stability I would think. I'm sure you could seal the area under the flippac where the rack part sits on the bed rails.

Would it work?

That would be awesome. With them mounted on both sides the truck would be rather wide.

I think you could do it ? I made some small metal pieces under mine that I attach a couple bars on when I want to lift the flippac with my tractor that are about that size between the flippac and truck rail and have a eye hook bolt though them that I bolt the bars to . Made lifting it real easy and with the foam between the rail and flippac there isn't any gap not filled . You could do the same thing with your bike rack I'm sure ? :smiley_drive:

Thanks for the pics. I would probably only do a rack on the driver's side and then have windoor on passenger side. Would some metal plates sandwiched on both sides of the composite bed be strong enough for the drop down part to be secured to in the bed?
I have no idea how to use sketchup, but this is sort of what i'm thinking.

you could mount with separate tray/head mount so the fork sits at 90 degrees and the handlebars are parallel to the shell...still wide IMO but better...would not work as well with drop bars...

So you think bolting down to the bedrails (disregard the clamp in this pic) would be sufficient?

That's the same essential idea, but that model has the long 90 degree piece going on the front part of the truck bed. Not sure if that much metal completely lining the bed rails is a good thing.
