Bluejay Build- an Expedition TJ

Hey guys, i've finally decided to take some initiative and get off this damn computer and work on the jeep so i figure it's about time to start a build thread. I'm only 18 and in university so i realize this won't be quite as exciting as some of the other builds on here, but i'm doing my best with my funds and i'd like to share it with all of you.

So, for a basic history on the jeep. My dad bought it about two years ago (yes, let the flaming begin because i dont actually own it yet ) when neither of us had a clue about what to look for on a Jeep. It had about 28,000 km on it when we got it, and i lucked out with the Dana 44/30 combo and NSG370 6 speed.....this is before i knew what a dana 44 even was haha. So, after about a year i really wanted to start offroading the sucker, as it is the reason i convinced my dad to buy it. So i went down to a local offroad shop to inquire about what i would need to get into the hobby. They hooked me up with a great club, and helped me get some cheap, if used, mud tires so i could accompany the group on my first trip. At this point my wallet started to get lighter and lighter

So, enough with my rambling. here are some pics of my build up so far.

Here it is posing out at a friend's piece of land a few miles away when it was still completely stock.

Then a few months later ready for the first offroad trip. Complete with a set of 31" mud tires.

I made do with a handheld CB on that first trip, but soon had a Uniden Pro520xl installed. unfortunately it is in the worst possible place the guy could find, so i hope to build an overhead console to house it soon.

A few trips later and still a rather inexperienced driver, i managed to get the picture of a lifetime, with only a busted sway bar link (thankfully). This also the reason for my forum name, as well as the Jeep's name.

with the sway bar link toast it was time to get some quick discos, so i grabbed some used RE ones off of a club member and tossed 'em on.

The following Christmas, my dad gave me the awesome present of the volant CAI and Snorkel kit, if payed for half. so a few empty pockets later, i eagerly started cutting up the body :) .

Got those nasty steps taken off as well!

It was worth it too, as we have a fair bit of water in the foothills of the Rockies. this pic was from a few weeks later

Took advantage of Rough Country's sale a while back and picked up a few goodies for the Jeep at a good price.

I decided i hated everything about chrome on a Jeep, so i painted the headlight bezels black.

Next it was time to change the front diff fluid, so i did a little painting while i had everything in pieces. cleaned up the axle housing, and painted the diff cover to match the body color.

Then, being bored, I added a dive spec knife to my roll cage in case of emergencies.

A 1.25" B: and 1" mml have now been added, and they give the jeep a much better stance with the 31s.

My focus now is to build the Jeep up for a ~15,000 km trip around north america with a few friends and at least one more jeep for this summer.

Thanks for looking. there should be more to come soon (overhead console is in the process of being built) !!

Well there is some good news and some bad news in this update.

The good news:
Got my 1.25" BL and 1" MML from rough country finally installed.
Here it sits with 31's

And here with a set of borrowed 33s

Next up, my center caps were getting rather rusty, so i gave them some paint and a bit of uniqueness....the writing isnt actually that bright of a blue, the flash just made it appear that way.

Now for the bad news......a few nights ago i was parked at my friends house, and while we were at monster jam, my friend's dad backed his truck into the jeep :( . resulted in a bent bumper, badly dented fender, and snapped fog light. His dad feels horrible about it (he knows how much i love my jeep lol) and will be paying for the damages. now...for the carnage pictures!!!

General049.jpg

and of course with my sick sense of humor...i left it next to my dad's ranger for him to find it like this in the morning :)

General060.jpg

The next day i attacked it with a grinder, some hearing protection, and some bad-*** goggles to make the bumper into a stubby so that it at least looks clean.

So the one up-side to the damage is that i now have a reason to upgrade my fenders!
i ordered these two kits to build my new tube fenders, and will be doing the rear as well when the funds permit it. in total it was just under $250 USD shipped.
