We did a thing.

Decided to change our “camping” set up. The better half wanted to be able to explore-lite up here in Alaska with our kiddo during the parts of summer while I’m away at work, with two caveats…. 1) no set-up, take down (see our habitat sale ad three years ago for details on that), and 2) heat.

That basically leads one direction. Slide in. So we shopped and looked and debated and read and looked some more. Down days at work were spent leafing through every forum thread etc I could find. We have several friends with the Cache Camper fishhook and after looking into it, comparing it against others in that category of “light weight and basic”, and visiting their shop here (each is built here in Alaska), we pulled the trigger. Their design lead even showed me a pic of one attached to a PW supposedly with no suspension mod for “salesman purposes”. Ha.

Four season with propane forced air heat. We have our ARB zero 73 dual zone fridge going in, and declined their mattress in favor of our exped megamat. Queen size cab over with folding dinette for the tiny human. Quite basic, but set up to add items later such as additional solar, sink, gas stove, awnings, etc later if desired.

Should weigh in at below 1500lbs as we equipped. Added thuren sway bar links and hellwig sway bar to assist with body roll from the inboard springs and debating a coil swap for payload purposes depending on how she handles.

Picking up mid-July and will be immediately giving it a 10day run-down through interior Alaska. Weeee!

That's awesome! Can't wait to see you post it up when you get it. There is ALOT to be said for no to minimal setup, it really takes any stress away from exploration/camping.

Yeah, I’m on hitch rotation most of the year and between minimal prep/shut down before and after trips and the ease of sliding into a camp spot and being able to be sheltered and tiny human in a sleep spot within minutes if needed…. Had a feeling we were going this way.

Will certainly post up again once it’s on.

Got some update build pics from Cache

We are staying really basic, so no interior stovetop or sink. Right side “nook” will hold our fridge, and Cache installed the ARB fridge fitting in there for us to keep the other 12v outlets at the edge of the dinette open for other uses. Water is a simple wall mount gravity jug.

Should be fully finished by around July 15

Exciting! Congratulations on your new camper! I will offer only one piece of advice if you will allow me.

So I ordered an F350 Tremor and a Supertramp Flagship LT at the same time to go together. The way I spec’d my F350 was for maximum payload, ended up with 4214lbs of available legal payload and a camper that weighs 1617lbs dry.

Add in a full tank of water, two weeks of clothing and provisions and it’s still sub 2000lbs. Great I have a literal TON of spare payload.

After driving the camper for over a year and close to 20k miles I loved it BUT it never really felt planted at high speed and cornering induced what felt like at least a lot of body roll.

I did all the measurements if height before and after the camper install and with the camper it dropped my truck to dead level which I thought was more then ok.

Fast forward a year and after countless searches for Sumo Springs, sway bars, ect. To help with stability and load control I decided air bags were the thing for me.

I ordered a set of Logiq bags with an HD2 compressor. I did the compressor install and wiring and had a garage door that bags (since they required removal of the overload springs which was a little more than I wanted to tackle at home.

Well ********, why didn’t I do this BEFORE I even installed the camper. Running with 50lbs in each bag the truck was restored to factory ride height. Highway now the truck is rock solid at any speed and cornering feels much safer.

As an added bonus with the bag and compressor setup I bought I can control bags separately (that is an absolute must no matter what you do) but what I didn’t anticipate was the ability to level my truck nearly anywhere in seconds!!!!

Yep, park your truck and adjust bags as needed. I can drop the rear and several inches or raise it several more and I can do them independently. I have presets for low driver and low passenger that put 10psi in one bag and 80psi in the other and I can fine tune from there. I have stuck on bubble levels on the truck and bags have made what used to be a 10 min job with leveling blocks into a 30 second operation it’s truly a game changer.

I’ve spent a lot of money on lights, GMRS, radios, big tires, and no upgrade has been even close to as useful as a set of remote adjustable air bags.

Just my $0.02 but it’s something I wish I did the day I bought it.
