Looks good to me.. I would probably just round off the corners on that angle, to get rid of the sharp edges.

So I got started on the side table today! it's not finished but will give you an idea on how it will be.

Took me a while to find the fittings on the side of the truck but eventually found some stainless steel fittings in a local boat chandlery for $4 each and fitted them just below the swage line in the truck, it's the right height for me but probably too high for someone under 6'.

I used a small chain to support the leading edge from the side awning frame. This way I can adjust the height of the front of the table if the truck is on a slight lean ( so nothing rolls off the front). Im yet to sand and paint the board but this is pretty much it so far

I'm open to suggestions on improving this idea.....

Interesting and inexpensive concept you came up with. I've been brainstorming ways to make a trail galley in my X more efficient, and I bet something like this would work well.

i'd look at maybe coating the ends of the metal brackets in something like a heat shrunk plastic to stop them scratching up the paint work of your vehicle maybe.

A can of Plasti Dip might do the trick to coat the brackets.

I was thinking about going the other way, and cutting some thin aluminium sheet to go between the boat fittings and the body. Stick it on with sika or silicon, or just some really thin double-sided tape. Just a big enough piece to stop the legs scratching the body.

Great work though Skids - it looks fantastic. It's amazing what people can come up with on this forum. Have you considered some cheap laminex for the table top? I like the aluminium angle along the sides of the table - I would have continued it all along the side to give extra strength and to stop stuff rolling off the table into the dirt. I like Chilli's suggestion of rounding off the corners too. I'll be very interested to see how the finished product turns out.

Overlander - great idea wrt the hole/screw to secure the chain. I had to draw it out in the air before I could picture what you had done, but I think that's an excellent idea. Low profile, nothing to catch, easy to make and easy to service.

I made a simple little table that hooks on the ladder of my roof rack and suspends from a rope run out to the far end of the board - sets up in seconds and is handy for making sandwiches on a trailside lunch break

I have one of those roll up tables. Biggest heap of junk I've ever bought - time-consuming and fiddly to set up, difficult to move without it falling apart, not very stable, etc. As you can probably tell, I really dislike the thing.

But, to each their own. Maybe mine is just low quality.
