Love it when your camping in weather that allows you to have all the windows open on the Flip Pac...talk about fantastic cross breezes. This pic is from Quartzsite Arizona, the evening after having my Flip Pac installed in Phoenix just hours earlier...I was on the way to Southern California. I was fortunate in that I planned the install of the Flip Pac around a road trip so got to use it extensively immediately.
Three Rivers has very impressive rock art over a large expanse. I was on my way home from California, decided to go up through bottom of state of New Mexico so I could go to Three Rivers...where I live at 7500 feet elevation in Los Alamos, in October...the snakes are already in their winters sleep....silly me...I was venturing at Three Rivers and encountered very angry diamond back rattlesnakes still out sunning themselves...elevation does make a difference in October in New Mexico!

UPS just dropped off the new Rain Fly from SLO Sail and Canvas...wow amazingly easy to put the fly on the Flip Pac! Impressed with the coating on the fabric on the inside. I am going to apply the nikwax tomorrow..but I bet I don't even need to....thats how it feels anyhow. The other cool thing about this fly...is the cream color goes with my Flip Pac tent color...our's isn't gray like all the newer ones.
I love that the tent size is the same whether you have a small truck as we do, or you have a gigantic turbo truck such as "Suntinez" has ;-)

I don't have many pictures of my homemade camper but I found these on an old computer from when I had added the fold up bed platforms. A basic shell, I don't really want all of the other camper bling. Lots of fun over the years but if I had known about them back then I would have just bought a new flippac.

Cool. The lack of a stand-up door is one thing that has (literally) kept me out of most pop-up truck campers. Have other manufacturers done anything similar?

I was told by a few guys that buy these and fix them up that the palominos are built with particle board and they never buy them used.

Finally got my new Phoenix out for a quick one night trip….and beauty shot. Much more to come this summer!
My neighbor buddy’s sad Palomino Bronco. It is barely 6 years old and leaks like a crazy and has more rattles than Babies R’ Us not to mention the interior that is literally falling apart. He is an older gentleman and takes really good care of his stuff and is just sick that his Palomino has totally self destructed in such a short time. The main reason for his structural issues with his Palomino is due to the stand-up rear door as there is no structural integrity to the rear wall (or sides for that matter). He couldn’t believe how quickly the Phoenix pops up when setting up camp and packs back up when you are ready to go home. To pack up, he spends 20 to 30 minutes raising the top to release the rear upper wall, then lowering the top, tucking in the fabric, folding in the back wall, then making at least 3 laps around the camper as he lowers it in order to tuck in all of the molded fabric. That is a huge compromise just to have a stand-up rear door.
