Camper/motorcycle setup

So, I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what style setup i would like to go with, BIG SUPRISE! :Wow1:

I have a '96 tacoma with 2.7L 5spd 4x4. I use this truck for primarily off-roading, along with carrying the motorcycle to and from.

I have a motorcycle and soon to be a second rider (GF) going with me. I also want to get a RTT to stay up off the ground in less desireable locations, (ie: soggy PNW backroads, yellowstone, etc.)

My questions for setup are:

Do I tow the motorcycles on a dedicated trailer and have a RTT attached to the truck on a bed rack?

OR:

Do I build a dedicated trailer for the RTT so I can leave it at "base camp" and carry the bikes in the pickup bed?

OR:

Any other suggestions?

I could maybe do a combination of the two, for when i was hauling motorcycle and not driving the truck around, have the RTT on the truck. Then when i planned to use the truck primarily, mount the RTT to the trailer...? :coffeedrink:

I'd like some Pros and Cons to both setups as i'm sure a few have done this same thing on here.

Thanks,
Aaron

I asked the same question on another forum I belong to advrider it can be found at http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=748120

I ended up getting rid of my Landcruiser, purchased a Ford 350 4x4 diesel, and am in the process of getting a slide in camper and upgrading my trailer's offroad ability to handle rougher roads. The bottom line is you can get a local fabricator to build you a plateform to hold the RTT onto the trailer you will be hauling the bikes on.

Another idea is a Jumping jack trailer that's explained in the link by a guy who has one. The tent folds down on the floor of the trailer and you ride the bikes on top for transport.

That is the direction that I took. I soon found my engine and bed too small for two bikes pulling a trailer. That led to a larger truck. The larger truck has plenty of power, so I ended up with a larger trailer.

Careful the snowball you start rolling down hill....

Thanks for the info/opinions!

I'm thinking about building a bed rack similar to the one AllPro has built and mounting the RTT atop that, eventually sewing up a Can-Back style canopy for it and just towing the bikes on a dedicated trailer. The truck wont be moved around a bunch (if at all) while dirtbiking. And i feel it'd be easier on longer trips to not have a trailer to drag the whole way. The RTT's seem to be easy enough to setup and tear down. I'm ok, with doing that if i have to...for now....
