Hmmmm, well the reason I ask is the DC plug is messed up on my fridge..out of warranty....so either I can spend the money to get it fixed...which will be over $100 or I can just buy a cheap inverter and continue to use it that way...which will be fine as long as it doesnt kill my battery over 4-5 days....guess I can pick one up and try it...see how long till my battery starts to become affected...

i've got a fp430 that compactappliance refunded my money on rather than repair, its just taking up space in my garage at the moment, might as well part it out since its not doing me any good...

Has anyone ran into trouble with there edgestar? Mine seems to has some problems. Normally its great but sometimes The motor wont turn on when it should. I have it set for 36 and right now its at 44. every once and a while I can hear the motor turn on for a few second and turn back off. everything looks fine but it just wont stay on to keep the temps down. Even hitting the Fast freeze button the motor wont turn on.

Cali,

Chances are your fridge is not getting enough power from the outlet you are using. You may need to upgrade your vehicle's wires to the outlet. Use a 12 gage wire or better yet, a 10 gage wire all the way to the battery. Be sure put in a breaker or fuse close to the battery and a good ground wire, equal size to the power wire. I used 10 gage speaker power cables in my Cruiser. Speaker wires are very supple and easy to use.

I dont think its the volts because when It started acting up again I used my inverter and powered it with A/C power and it did the same thing.

Basically Ive noticed it on 2 occasions, where the temps are higher then what I set it at and I realize that the motor isn't running. So I unplug it and plug it in again and ill hear the motor spool up for a second or 2 then turn off. most of the time it works fine but just once while camping it did it but started working after a few hours. then today I noticed it was in the 40's when its set at 36 but its working again now.

I think ill just call edgestar in the morning see if they have any idea's. Just dont want it to stop working on my death valley trip this summer!!!

I pulled the side panel off and all the connectors seem solid.

Did the prices just jump on these things? Been eyeing them for a while and was prepared to buy one and went on today and they're listed @ $499!

That sounds like a Battery / Power problem. I run mine off a separate battery, when that battery is low I see that issue. Also when I used the cig socket had the same issue, I got a new power cable from a powerbrick, wired that directly to the Battery through a decent fuse.

Fridge Problems

I've had my fridge a couple months. I tested it when it first came (had to fix the 12v side and later added a better plug). It seemed to be working fine (i.e. it cools), but I hadn't really road tested it.

Fast forward to this weekend . . .

First problem was the 12v side was blowing the fuse. Double checked the cable, which I had previously tested, it appears to be fine: no shorts. Since I was leaving the next day and the problem was not the cable I decided to just run it off an inverter. It cooled everything down to the high 30s, no problem while sitting in my garage (temp around 80 degrees). I let it run overnight with the food in it to verify it worked and see what it was doing to my battery (newer Group 31 = Big). I noticed it appears to ALWAYS be running and consequently, by battery was down to about 11.8 volts within 12 hours. There was no way this thing could run for even 24 hours before killing my battery.

Pinched for time, I had to move everything to an ice chest and leave my brand new fridge at home for the first camping trip of the year! I plan to troubleshoot it a bit, but am worried it might be a refrigerant issue as opposed to just a board issue.

If anybody has any thoughts, I'm open to suggestions. Pretty sure the window may have closed for a replacement.

Well, I did resolve the 12V problem. I wired the the plug backwards :smilies27. Brain Fart on my end. I thought I had tested the cable, but apparently not. Cable is working now.

In terms of the power draw, the troubleshooting section of the manual suggests it could be "The temperature sensor is out of the evaporator or the controller is faulty." The only solution listed is to contact Edgestar - which I have done.

I'm really hoping to avoid shipping this thing.

I have it running in the garage hooked through a "Kill A Watt". I may bring home my Fluke from work and get a day's worth of current readings. It does say it is normal for the fan to run all the time. So it's possible I was hearing the fan and not the compressor. However, the current draw is still an issue.

I went ahead and bought one at the new price. They are still a good value, and I don't want to screw around with a refurbished or mishandled unit or wait weeks until one comes available. So far, it is working great.
