Where are you going to put the A/C condenser? Do you have room in front of the rad still?

Er, sorry, I think I misspoke. Plenty of room for the condenser -- I'll just bolt that guy somewhere.

The compressor is where I'm scratching my head because I need a pulley.

Pretty sure the vacuum is only doing the brakes, unless I'm missing something. No cruise.. door locks are mechanical...

On the 6.5 GM's with the serpentine belt, they mount the compressor on either the LHS or RHS, depending on year. LHS was pre '96, RHS is '96+

Hope that helps...

few pics of my 800 mile trip to Sierra Nevada mountains . rover did wonderful ,

funny story, i was in front of the auto parts store 400 miles away to buy a quart of diesel motor oil. when i see this guy walking in with 8 gallons of used motor oil, returning to the store. i asked him is that used oil? he says yes, i asked can i take that from you? to put it in my gas tank? what? he answered. this guy was shocked when i dumped that 8 gallons in the gas tank in front of him :)

i took some 150 micron strainers with me, i knew i was gonna go to some mechanic shop, part store or somewhere were they change oil so i could take some.

so oil goes true 150 micron filter, then true water separator then true 10 micron filter after fuel pump. and then wraaaaaaaaaaam start and drive :)

Just wondering, how many miles can you go on 8 gallons of used motor oil?

yubert

Explorer
i can go 136 miles on the freeway and 192 in the city

17/24 mpg better mpg on the streets or slow driving

Wow I didn't know diesels get better mpg in the city. Is that true of all diesel engines?

BTW, I remember your truck at the SCLR Death Valley trip 2 years ago. Are you going to put the snorkel back on?

diesel engine unlike the gasoline can run for days on idle speed 650 RPM and use very little fuel. gasoline engine burns much much more fuel during idle . so this means the slower your diesel motor is rotating the better fuel economy you get.

if i had 6 speed manual or automatic Trans. i would get close to 40 mpg.

fuel economy on diesel motor depends on your diff or transmission gear ratios

witch one was your truck from sclr trip? the red disco 2 ?

Ahhh yes, I was the red Disco2 that broke down. Turned out it was my front diff, not the transmission mounts.

It would be great if I could put a diesel in my red D2 just for the increase in cruising range... Stock D2 gas tank is 25 gallons.

ahhh if we knew it was your front diff we could of removed your front drive shaft and you could of drive it home or even follow us on 2wd

classic has 17 gal. gas tank

classic range rover diesel conversion details

engine military j code 6.2 $ 1500
transmission zf22 used on my European cars . you gonna use 4l80e GM transmission bell housing $30
you gonna need half inch aluminum adapter plate that has about 20 drilled bolt holes, this adpter plate acts like a middle man one side bolted to zf22 and the other side bolted to 4l80e bell housing you gonna use
when you remove the transmission from the original rover motor, it has about 3 plates and 2 adapters ( i dono why) so you are going to use one of this round plates and weld that on the flex plate of the 6.2 engine. (that flex plate comes out very easy ) that's what gonna hold your TQ converter.
in the middle of the crank shaft there is hole you gonna need one adapter plate metal that will keep the distance and the balance of the TQ converter.

you gonna need new transmission cooler lines, ( the adapter plate and bell housing are big and u cant use the original cooler lines) lines cost 120$

gas pedal cable stays the same and needs no modification.
collant reservoir stays the same
you gonna need to add second battery and connect them together, no special switches needed

you gonna need to add vacuum to be able to use your brake system. vacuum unit cost 90$

exhaust headers must be custom made using the original hummer exhaust headers cost 40$

power stirring pump can stay the same with very little touch .

gas tank needs no modifications, except you have to remove the original fuel pump from the tank, and make one str8 pipe all the way down,

fuel lines need no modification

glow plugs use 60G ac delco 12$ EACH

ford starter solenoid makes it manual glow plug heating system never problem again

fuel pump is 14 psi unit 65$ goes by the motor. fuel filter is from BMW or even original range rover 10 micron after the fuel pump

radiator must be as large as u can make it fit,( mine is 6 core $500 )

front electric fans are Mercedes Benz 1992 C class fans. from pick your part $25

rear fan is from Volvo pick your part unit $25

fan shroud is made by us depending on the size

transmission cooler on mine is very large Chevy truck unit from pick your part $16

original electrical junk must be removed, ECU unit comes out from under the seat on goes str8 to trash can

my rover runs on 4 wires GLOW PLUGS. STARTER, FUEL SHUT OFF SELENOID, AND FUEL PUMP.

U don't want any wires if u gonna go true deep water.

my rover seats are from Toyota manual seats

u have to cut the original motor mount brackets and make one to work with 6.2 that's an easy job once your engine is out you can cut that and when you put the engine back attached to transmission, first put your transfer case and attache it to frame, once it is attached then lower the motor, keep it on the engine lift and make new bracket, to work with motor mounts used on 6.2 $35

exhaust system can stay the same, except the catalytic converters go out

I THINK THATS ABOUT IT. and you got diesel land rover
