Clutch By Pass Needed to Start? Need Suggestions!!

I installed a new clutch back in September have about 1500-2000 miles on it. Everything is great until today when my wife jumped in to go to work (her rig is down and out).
she depressed the clutch, turned the ignition and nothing! All the lights on etc., so I pushed in the clutch by pass button and VIOLA it stated! Temps right now are in the low teens to low 20s, so it is not that bad out.
I had this same issue with an Isuzu Trooper but that was from the wet carpet expanding as it iced up and would not allow the clutch to extend far enough to disengage the idiot switch, which I by passed with a 5 amp fuse.

Question: Do you believe it could be caused from the colder temps similar to our Isuzu or do I need to adjust the clutch peddle so it extends further so it engages the idiot switch?

First, check the contacts on the clutch safety switch. Actually, check to see if it contacts it completely. You can also just push the switch with your finger (with it in neutral, duh) and turn the key. May only need an adjustment. Start easy, work up.

x2 Also, do a search on Yotatech.com. I discovered the source of my clutch pedal problem on there.

Does your tacoma have a remote lock/unlock? if so some of them have a function where it disables the starter if someone unlocks the door with a key manually. Mine did this to me, and It took me for ever to figure out what the heck was going on, but that was it.

I'd just bypass it. If your clutch ever goes out that switch will prevent you from starting in gear and then power shifting to get yourself home.

got up at 0600 fiddled with it, sprayed some lube on the moving metal parts and viola it worked. Drove all over hell and gone today with two start up failures. I did notice that IF I vigorously applied the clutch to the floor the switch did not like this and it would not start, but if I applied just a wee bit o pressure when engaging pedal to start it did not fail once!

Tomorrow work on the generator and install some goodies on the 3/4 ton.

I had this problem with my old `89 Toy. The switch was fine, and the pedal was going down and hitting the switch. It ended up being the bracket that held the switch in place had fatigued cracked, thus when the pedal hit the switch, rather than depressing it, the whole assembly moved back with the pedal.

You can bypass the switch so it will start anytime, clutch in or out. Just connect the two wires going to the switch... It wont cause any other issues, other than your wife may try to start it in gear. :sombrero: Both my Tacoma and my wife's 4-Runner are bypassed so the remote starts function, just need to remember to leave it in neural.
