The OP's post is just an excuse for us to talk about cheap military surplus trucks. :sombrero:

I was passing through the Lucerne Valley area and stopped in at $100 dollar man. It was a close thing. I almost left with a 5/4 ton ambulance. His price was good and the truck was nice.

what he said.

Then by all means, talk amongst yourselves. Just wanted to make sure you guys knew you may be talking to the wall.

Those bobbed duece's look the bomb. Much truck for little $, could do just about anything with that. Except drive on the interstate maybe. And it seems like a good value on the M1028's, that's a whole lot of pick up truck.

Carry on...

Maybe it's cuz I'm in a "military" town, but here in San Diego, I see those cruising the highway, (both civie and military versions) doin' 60-65 pretty comfortably. Saw one just a few days ago actually. Dude in a t-shirt drivin along the 163 south right past Balboa into Mission valley. (Malls, shops, etc)

Parking it at work or the mall, though. Now THAT would be tough. :coffeedrink:

When they put those big 49 or 53 inch tires on them they cruise pretty good down the interstate and will get 10-11 mpg doing it. 100dollarman has some good stuff and decent prices, to bad he's on the other side of the country from me :(

I actually email him today about his M1010 (5/4 ton ambulance) but it was just recently sold. It was the only one he has had. I am on the hunt for one after not buying a 4x4 ambulance van earlier this week. Was bummed but the wife's feet/legs just didn't work in the small footwell area of an '80 E350 van. :(

I hoping a truck based rig will offer the comfort she needs, so the hunt continues...

As far as "light duty" pick-up trucks go, that has got to be the top of the heap. All truck for sure. Barebones, no AC, no overdrive, but very very tempting. Reliable, good fuel mileage comparatively, unbreakable, mostly locked axles, should say unbreakable twice. And no chrome.

The fear manifested in the weak of heart when seen on the road is a plus as well. That truck screams "You don't want to mess with me because I'm crazy, I only hang with crazy people, and we have more firepower and ammo than you do". And "Make sure you don't eyeball me too much at this stop light lest I turn my attention on you little person".

All it needs is a gun rack in the back window. A perfect display case for a couple nanner clipped AK's. That would be beautiful. I'm partial to AK's though. Then the reaction at the intersections would be priceless. And can't forget to wear all camo when driving it.

If I had the free cash, and the wife would allow it, this would be in my driveway right now.

You know, You can buy one that has not been prettied up for a lot less and do it yourself.

If you are unsure of your mechanical ability. Don't worry. I am a lousy mechanic but have restored my 42 Willys jeep and 53 Army ambulance and a Duece and a half.

Here's the secrets.

1, Buy the army manuals for that vehicle. Lots of pictures and written so a ten thumbed city boy can understand it. These vehicles are easy to work on because. Things are easy to get to and all it usually takes is socket wrenchs and a big screwdriver

2, Put Antelope Valley truck and Equipment on your speed dial. (Ask for Norm.) They have every part and at the lowest prices shipped to your door. Also Norm will talk you through it.

I talked to Norm about the ambulances and he advised getting a couple lower radiator hoses. They are specific and the supply is drying up.

More and more though I keep looking at those Blazers. 1/2 ton with a diesel. Must stop myself... Anybody want to buy a 1942 Willy's jeep? Just send the money direct to $100 man.

Yeah, I know I can get one that hasn't been fixed up for less.. I was just using that one as an example. I am seriously considering a CUCV blazer one day... would make a strong and reliable expo rig... Of course, I'd probably swap out the axles to a 60/14bolt combo, but who knows, maybe that wouldn't be necessary.

Anyone know of a M1010 ambulance within 400-500 miles from San Diego area, that's for sale? Seriously looking at picking up one of these.
