Ooooooh can't wait!

You even have us Jeepers chomping at the bit

Looking forward to seeing it & hearing about the shakedown.

Big thumbs up for creating something unique! Enjoy!!!

Holding off for the big reveal. Truck will be finished up this weekend, then off to Colorado and New Mexico for a few weeks of shakedown on-road, off-road, and at altitude. :wings:

Looking forward to finally getting her out into the world... still fewer than 15 miles on the odometer at this point. :Wow1:

For those out west... keep an eye out. :)

Oh, and we're definitely moving forward on that short video on the build... it's coming along nicely...

You have my attention!

We're running from Boulder to Aspen to Basalt to Taos. You might see us.

It's been a busy week figuring out the shipment to Boulder next week, then the trip plan, which will be about 500 miles total (400 miles of tarmac and 100 miles of off-road).

We'll then, time permitting, run with two friends from Taos to Moab... which I'd love to do, and if the schedule allows it, we'll make it happen.

I know, I know, everybody wants the video... but it won't be done for a few weeks. I promise, though, it's going to be worth the wait.

But here's a little teaser of shop shots and trip plan in the meantime... :)

Great job on the truck! It's good to see someone modifying their vehicle to their own liking.

One question though...Where are the tail lights? I noticed early on that the space was welded closed. Are they going into the bumper?

Stephan - I've driven all over in a modded FJC (and FJ7Xs, LC200s, etc.), including to Khartoum, Somaliland, etc. Are there security issues? Sure. But there are also security issues if you plan to drive through Detroit or Istanbul or London.

Abridged for bandwidth, however one of the best posts ever published on ExPo.

Okay, I figured as much, but is there a reason you did that? Seems like they could be more easily damaged in the bumper.

Considered using old-school 1980's tail lamp lenses with LEDs in them, even considered using LX450 tail lamps retrofitted with LEDs.

Finally decided using a standard lamp size and a resin-packed (waterproof, vibration resistant) LED pack was the best option. The lamps are cheap (esssentially disposable), compact (easy to bring spares), and are set into a steel plate bumper (which is 3/16" in parts and 1/8" in other parts), with several pieces (license plate lighting, shackles) that extend beyond the lamps. Given the configuration of the bumper, I'm not too worried about damage to the lamps. And if there is damage to the lamps, then there are likely bigger problems (major rear impact).
