We run them on our 105-series Landcruiser and haven't had any issues, even after several desert crossings, a trip up Cape York, and a journey around the Great Australian Bight.

Seem to work well in sand and mud, while lasting a long time.

Awesome! A set of Maxtrax are on my list.

Question for the masses on the ST Maxx's. Specifically in the 315/70/17 size - I'm looking for an E Rated set for my 4x4 Sportsmobile, however these tires are only D Rated. The confusion comes with the Weight Ratings. E Rated 315/70s BFG/Toyo's etc have a 3195lb rating and so do these D Rated Maxx's

What are the thoughts? Vehicle comes in around 10,500lbs so I've typically have only considered E Rated tires

Personally I have no concerns running a load range D tire over an E in most (almost all) cases, as long as there is plenty of load capacity. An example of a possible exception might be very heavy towing, where the stiffer sidewall might be needed or wanted. For some applications and uses I prefer LR D for the added flexibility.

That's weird that they're Ds. The 255/80-17s I had were Es...
Why not ping Cooper and see?
They're very robust tires.

Don't even consider a D with your weight and leverage of the tall body over the tires. The newer Sportsmobiles finally upgraded to an E. It's a stiffer and much stronger sidewall. Puncture resistance will be greater too. The only E-rated 315-70-17 I'm aware of is the Firestone/Bridgestone offerings. A 50 psi max 315 indicates less than ideal sidewall strength.

Back in August we ran Cooper ST/maxx tires up to Alaska/Yukon/and NWT..
We drove the big 4 dirt Hwy's
Dalton,Dempster,Denali, and Top of the world!! 13,000 kilometers took off 40% of the tread from New...I brought two spares with me on this trip, and didn't need them!!Cooper's held up to freshly graded dirt road with plenty of sharp rocks standing proud to kill my tires.. Solidly built tire..ImageUploadedByTapatalk1444698378.413308.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1444698488.929310.jpg

Been running ST Maxx's on the XJ for about 4500 miles now. They are holding up great! Mostly pavement since installing them, but will be doing more off road stuff as things start to cool down here in SoCal area. For on-road driving, they are amazing! They feel solid in the rain, not slippery at all, and they are very very quiet. I'm a happy camper with them for sure!

I have a set of ST Maxx 255/85-16's on my heavy fully armored 2012 Frontier (Shrockworks skids plates, front/rear bumpers, sliders, 8K warn winch, topper, etc.).

Tread depth new is 18.5/32”, after 15,000 miles (rotating 4 at a time) they are at 8/32”, so I've used about .02” per 1,000 miles, which leaves approximately 7,000 miles of life left on these tires if we run them to 3/32”. The edges have chunked quite a bit but we spend a lot of time in 4 low in CO, NM, AZ, and UT as well as 2 and 4 high dirt roads. AZ is exceptionally hard on tires and UT takes its toll as well. I have another set of wheels with Hankook Dynapro ATM all terrain tires mounted that I use for everyday driving, the Coopers go on mainly for our off road oriented trips, so they see predominately off road use. Considering the amount of off road these tires have seen I find the wear acceptable.

The ST Maxx tires are heavy, probably around 60lbs per tire (I weighed them with a bathroom scale mounted on stock wheels and subtracted stock wheel weight, so not super accurate) and I definitely feel the rotational weight in acceleration, braking, and mpg. But these are great off road, I feel very confident airing them down to 15-18 lbs in rocks.

I can't recommend them for packed snow/icy conditions, I feel these tires are much closer to a mud terrain than an all terrain.

Note: I have not read this thread to know if my experience is similar to others, but above has been my experience to date.

That is pretty fast wear, about 1,500 miles per 1/32", right?

But, your use sounds really hard, with few easy highway miles to even out/slow down the trail wear. Did you subject the rig to the same use/duty-cycle before the S/T MAXX were added? With what tire?
