I have decided that my Deaver 12 leaf pack rear springs aren't going to cut it... I have saggy butt now with a full load thanks to my recent rear bumper upgrade and the fact that I carry lots of gear when I go out. It's a shame because up until now I have REALLY enjoyed the ride these springs provide both on and off road :)

As tempting as it is... I know better than to use blocks or other gimmickry.

So, I contacted Deaver and they said these 12 leaf spring packs are maxed out for size and the only way to gain carrying capacity and fix the saggy butt syndrome is a custom leaf pack... $750.

I have looked and I dont think OME Dakars or anything else will handle what I have now so I'm looking for others opinions. Do I just have this one option of having a custom setup made or is there something else I could do?

Anyone interested in a good set of used Deavers? :)

Have you weight your truck loaded? ARB told me they tested Dakar with about 800lbs in bed and it gives 2-3cm lift with that weight.

The guy with the offroad cargo on EXPO? I'd like to see what he has done to that.

TacoDoc,

With your new bumper are you now carrying two spares, or did you move the spare from under the truck?

If you moved the spare from under the truck, are you planning on a bigger gas tank?

I've had very VERY good luck with my OME Dakar's and have put them through some really good weight. I wouldn't trade them for any spring out there right now. The most weight I have put them under was 1450lbs, I had 2" until I hit the bump stops. I was building a garden for my wife, I had a yard and half of black dirt and 6 24"x36" paving stones on top of that.

You have a very similar truck to me and use it similar. I would still take a really good look at them. :)

Average weight camping is about 750 - 800bls of camping gear, fuel, water.

I looked for the recipt, but I can't seem to find it. The ALCAN work great with Steve's heavy Swing out bumper, gas cans, Canpoy, Sea kayaks, and all my gear. I am very happy to have no saggy butt on my truck.

Plus you can't beat there customer service. Here's the story. When I first ordered my leafs I under estimated the weight of the rear bumper and my stuff since I did not have the bumper yet, just saw pics.

The leafs flatted out too much, so I called Alcan again and explained my situation not knowing how we could remedy it. They said no problem at all and sent UPS to pick them back up. With in a week I had a complete new set at ZERO cost to me, they even paid for ALL shipping. I could not believe that. I feel so guilty because they lost several hundred dollars on me. The new ones thay built for me were dead on.

That made me a customer for life.

Costco Back Up Camera Update

Well, it was a nice try.

The WINPLUS wireless 3.5 Inch LCD Color Backup Camera did not meet my standards.

The camera lens is fogged beyond belief... so it is going to go back to Costco.

After 30 days, I have not been impressed with it's performance. The wireless signal is the issue I think as sometimes you have a picture but more often than not it is just rolling static (and I'm not talking on the CB or cellphone either).

So, buyer beware. It does not deliver as advertised!

Thanks for the warning. I was going to pick one up in a few weeks. Not anymore.

Exhaust Pipe Trimming

I cut it back to the hanger since it stuck out way low and IMO it looked funny in with the new bumper.

I think this should be well out of the way of any trail obstacles, and will not negatively affect function.

*EDIT* Do not cut your exhaust here like I did. Cut it back another foot from what I have shown so that it points down... as shown, it will melt all the rubber out of the spring eye bushings on that hanger, trust me... it did on mine

The rear bumper came off this weekend for a thorough "prep before the prep" before powdercoating this week :)

I thought about that too, I think you might have given me the motivation to do it to my rig. I'm always scared when I go to cut something off.

This was a no-stress mod unlike the quarterpanels... :smilies27

This is about as easy as it gets, and looks much better IMO.

Yeah, I could have never done what you did.

I will most definitely do this sometime this week.
