Doc, it was a pleasure to get out with you again, the truck is looking great as usual!

Let me know when you are ready to head North!

Tell Nori that we missed her this time, Brian was hilarious so it was a good trade off!

Doc congrats on the picture in Toyota Owner along with Cell4soul. Thanks for the tip on removing the sway bar, got it done tonight before I put the new UCA's in and springs. A bit more body roll, but the truck suspension works so much better.

Tire Trouble...

Well, somewhere between Ballarat and the Briggs and Stone cabins I picked up a piece of steel in the sidewall of my front passenger side tire (BFG MT).

I have been running this set of BFG's since 2005... 30,000 miles on them and they have been wearing well with proper rotation. These same tires have been to Baja, Arizona, Nevada, all over Anza Borrego and two times through Death Valley - and have served as daily drivers as well. I am very happy with these tires over all.

Today, I threw on the new spare I had on the swingout and decided to shop for one more new tire so I have matching drivers up front :)

According to Big O tires... BFG is owned by Michelin and they show NO 255/85R16's in BFG MT KM in any of their warehouses...

Evidently, production has shifted to the new MT KM2 and it is not available in 255/85R16.

So, now the search is on!

Dang! I've had great luck with my tires so far too... except for when I need another one. Now it appears things have gotten worse.
I'm still a year away from needing a full set, but it looks like when the time comes I'll be migrating to a whole new tread. Since I've been riding your coat-tails all this time I'll just blatantly come out and say it:

Pick out a nice tire for us Dave!

Thanks.

I think the new BFG MT KM2 will be a good tread.

Now Toyo has their MT also in 255/85 (but they cost $$)

the only problem with Toyo MT is that they are an extremely heavy tire. Very tough in off-road, but very heavy. which can create more rolling resistance and up gas mileage.

I run a 285-70-17 cooper which weighs in at about 58lbs a tire, the same in toyo a 295-70-17 which is just about the exact tire size to mine weighs in at 73lbs = out to about 75 more pounds of rubber on your truck including spare.

Just might be something to look at. I know you use a 255-85-16, which weighs 60 lbs a tire with Toyo, I'm not sure what the BF MT weigh in at, but I would bet that there would be a difference of about 10 to 15 lbs a tire.

I just wish all tire manufactures would put the weight of there tires in the specs, like Toyo does.

Yep they are heavier than BFG MT, but not much more than Maxxis Bighorns.

All the info, weights, etc. is in this thread :)

I walked into a local big o last week and they had a set in the corner they said was sent there by accident. I got them for $50 a tire less than my last set. :wings: My point is maybe you should try a different big o because they obviously had some.

I know your still on TTORA a lot... have you heard anything from JT about there 4.56? I am thinking it might be a smart thing to do before we head back across country.

I took a look at All Pro's site and saw they have 4.56 gear for 05+ Tacomas. Is there a reason not to go with them?
