Hi Markerx
that is why i have it connected to the switch which is located right next to my steering wheel this way i control the charging process with the flick of the switch i have installed, as you and others would be aware this way of charging by passes the smart charging system which means it is my responsibility to ensure i do not leave it turned on too long.
as a rule of thumb i only have it on charge for no more 2 or 3 hours at a time this is so i don't over charge the battery and fatigue it from over charging it.
i have tested the amperage being produced by my Anderson plug and it produces between 18 and 22 amps.
in terms of charging time the Anderson plug is much quicker (18 to 22 amps) but as you know you need to ensure you don't leave it on charge and do damage from over charging, where as the DC to Dc charging is slower (6 amps) but the good thing about it that is uses the smart charging system so it can be left on all the time whit out worrying about over charging the battery.
The DC to DC car charger does not ever over charge the battery the smart charging system ensures that this does not happen.
if any one has any more question about this set up please ask.
Regards
Brett from Ark
My Ark arrives Friday. We weren't at the expo so no specials for us
Battery (XMC31) arrived yesterday and tested at 12.56 volts. I put it on 2a until the light turned green about 3 hour later.
We'll see how it works this weekend with a Whytner45 and Goal Zero lights.
I run my ArkPak with an Odyssey (DieHard Platinum) group 31 with my Whynter45 and other accessories like fairy lights and as a recharge station for phones, easily lasts the weekend without recharging.
Pro tip: turn the ArkPak off unless you are charging via AC or the DC to DC adapter or using the inverter as it will just draw power otherwise, I usually hook the fridge up to it in the car and keep it topped up with the DC to DC charger to/from so that takes a little remembering to turn it on & off as required.
Thanks for the tip. I'll bring our 100w folding panel too and see how it all runs together.
The Renogy Suitcase 100w model rocks.
That is what I use, but I have not done the Anderson mod yet, I just hook i to the side terminals.
Brett, Sorry. I was referring to the Northwest Rally outside Seattle I June. We couldn't make it to AZ this year but would love to take advantage of any Arkpak discounts you are offering.
Thank you
For the next product release, how about setting up the Anderson so it works with the smart charging system?
