Hi,

Wanted to share a little mod that I made to my Arkpak. First, a little back story: My S.O.P. when headed out on a camping trip is to run the fridge off vehicle power when doing any significant driving, then switch to the Arkpak when parked. Probably a familiar pattern to most battery box users. I have been wanting to install a dedicated wiring harness in my rig for sometime (efficiency, reliability, safety). This became more critical when I removed the subwoofer from my jeep and lost the rear power outlet due to its integrated wiring harness (facepalm).

So, yesterday I installed the ARB fridge freezer wiring harness, which also comes with a threaded socket that is more secure than a standard 12v socket. Love this new socket! It's very secure and the combined cord and socket ends up considerably lower profile. The fridge already had an updated DC power cable which could use either style socket (screw the tip off and store tip & fuse). So, nice upgrade for my jeep... but I didn't want to have to keep adapting the cable (or buy a second one) when switching between vehicle and battery box. What to do?

After a little bit of minor surgery, I replaced one of the standard 12v outlets with the ARB style one. Fits quite well:

Yes, it still works and the swinging door that hides all the Arkpak controls and outlets still closes. :ylsmoke:

I didn't think to take a photo of the guts when I had the Arkpak open, but here is the basic process:

1) Carefully peel off the vinyl sticker that is around both round 12v outlets. This will reveal the phillips head screws that hold the outlets to the battery box:

2) Open the Arkpak box and remove the four large phillips screws that keep the inside of the lid attached.

3) Carefully remove inside of lid revealing the Arkpak's logic boards, outlet, inverter, etc.

4) Decide which of the 2 12V outlets will be replaced and remove it using the phillip's screws revealed in step 1.

5) Replace with accessory of your choice, the Arkpak uses standard blade connectors internally. It's super easy.

6) Button up the Arkpak and have a cold beer!

Enjoy!

Brett,

I have owned my ArkPak for awhile now and still feel it is a solid investment.

Can you tell me the diameter of the two screw inputs on the side?

My current solar panels use alligator clips, and I am thinking about switching them out for loop style connectors.

Thanks!

ArkPak Security... anyone have any ideas how to secure?

I am searching high and low for ideas on how to secure the ArkPak while in use at a campsite. I am using it as a mobile power station with a connected 100w solar panel which is powering a 63 qt ARB fridge among other devices. I have a plan for securing all other items so that they can continue to operate while the fam and I are on hikes, or short away trips from base camp, but can't seem to find a viable solution for securing it. Closest I could find was http://batteryshackle.com/. The owner can create custom sized shackles to fit the ArkPak, but it would impede access to the front and side ports. Need to have access to those ports while it's "locked-up".

Any ideas short of fabrication? Need to get something in place in the next 7 days.
