Droverrover buys an fj80???!!!

Hey, don't tell my friends in the land rover section! Lol! I've been a long time land rover owner, 3 range rovers and 3 discoverys. You could say my blood runs green. Those of you in this section who aren't familiar with my truck, I was recently on the front page in the article "winter challenge". This is my beloved 04' disco image.jpgBut I always have coveted the landcruiser, particularly the fj80. I wheel with a lot of guys who run 80's and I'm amazed at how capable they are.

So , I always surf the local craigslist ads (more or less , just to entertain myself) for 80's for sale, never really thinking I would buy one. For one, on the east coast , when you see one either it has 300k on the clock, or some guys wheeled the ******** out of it , and it's all roached out. Well this past Sunday , I'm flipping through the local ads and I come across this , with only 100k on the clock, one owner, and an elderly lady who never drove in the snow because she was afraid to, and kept it , garage kept it's whole life. One of those urban myths , I know. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Long story short, I got it for $5,000!!! I literally didn't make it home, and I was already calling cristo at slee and ordering a lift, had it 2day aired , called my friends at the tire shop , and order some new wheels, and mounted my old 33's on it, that used to be on the rover before I went to 35's.

Within 5 days of ownership, she looks like this

This will end up being a pretty mild build compared to the rover (6" lift , 35's etc) , the goal with this truck is to be more of a family friendly overland vehicle. My wife hates getting in the rover , with the lift. So , like I said pretty mild. I do want to do the slee shortbus, but am still undecided on sliders, and rear bumper. Any suggestions would be appreciated , also looking at doin lockers, have always done Ashcroft or arb , the two best for rover applications. But is there anything out there for 80's that I'm missing? E-lockers?

Like I said previously , this is my first toyota fj80, and I'm just not as familIar as I am with a rover platform. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I'll try to keep thread updated with progress pics.

"bump it offroad" is a much better deal than slee, and he only charged 200 more bucks to make my brush guard into a drop down game carrier and removable. he also did a custom fab on the rear to mount my rear winch up and under so it doesnt stick out or hang low. and as you saw, his stuff is strong enough to hold the weight of an overloaded lexus as i bounce it off of every mountain in the state of vermont.

Slee makes goods stuff, but so does mike at bump it off road. mikes also a bit less money and really easy to deal with (not sayin slee isn't. They are great too)

Also slee was out of production of bumpers for awhile... Not sure if they are caught back up yet or not.

4x4Labs makes a great bombproof rear bumper with various tire and Gerry can carrying option.

Congrats on your new addition. Good to see folks who can appreciate the charms of more than one brand.

Hey guys, does anyone have this bumper?

It's by a company dcfabrication. I really like the rear side protection.
Also I've decided to go with the bumpit step sliders

Thanks for the suggestions.
Does any one here have the bumpit step slider? Could you post a pic?

What I like about the bumpit step slider is , it doesn't look like you have sliders. How is the fit to the front trim/mudflap? Does the rear running board end cap fit on the slider?

What a great deal. Hopefully, you're doing all PM stuff. Good luck with the build.

dont worry about him and his PM's. he bought 200 head for a dairy, and it turned out they are all steers. PMing rigs is what he does all day.
