Looks good! Any way to put some cams in there? Get a little more power?

I'm sure there are some aftermarket cams out there but, I plan on keeping it stock mostly. Stock is plenty for my needs. The only thing I may get is a set of headers. Either JBA or some of the Pacesetter long tube headers or a set of the $150. Still debating.

Yeah I hear ya! Headers would be the best ting to do while its out, be easy! If you can still use the o2 sensors then I'd go for the long tubes for more torque, but I happy with my JBA's.

Additional updates of the swap. Posted the short block in the classifieds and worked more on the "new" motor and the old motor.

"new": removed the timing belt for clean up and replacement.

Old: removed the headers, intake plenum, starter and disconnected all the connectors. When I removed the starter there was literally a pile of dirt and sand packed underneath. Note to self, stop playing in the mud with the truck . Also, dropped a 12mm deep socket down the exhaust pipe. So, now I have to remove the cat to get to it. ARGH!!! :(

Next: replace the starter contacts and clean it up. Replace rear main seal, paint the engine block with black paint. Reinstall new timing belt, water pump, etc... Also, looking at getting an aftermarket aluminum crank pulley and some shorty headers. Once the old motor is out, clean and paint the engine bay black. Possibly, re-plumb the fuel lines and power steering lines

Here are some pics of the "new" motor and the two tables with parts from each motor separated. I reinserted most of nuts/bolts in order to keep everything organized and not lose any of them. Plus it helps, so I don't have to remember where everything goes come the time I have to re-install everything.

Looks good! It is getting there. You should definitely get some headers it would be so easy now, and comparing headers to the stock ones is embarrassing lol!

Headers are easy to remove/install for me. Takes me about 30 mins to an hour to remove them. Depends if the nuts are giving me problems or not. Which, they do most of the time.

Just to provide an update...

Decided to use Dupli-Color engine enamel low gloss black (good for 500 degrees F) on the intake plenum and the valve covers. Still need to clean and paint the driver side cover. Once the motor in the truck is out, I'll probably paint the engine bay the same low gloss black. Here's a few pics.

What, no Racer Red?

Looks good. We're currenly swapping out a 4.0 out of my daughter's XJ...I wish the motors we're dealing with were as clean as that mill of yours.

LOL! No bright colors for this rig. However, I was thinking of a gun-metal gray. The motor itself was not too bad. I did scuff and clean the surfaces pretty good, cleaned out the throttle body by hand. The intake plenum saw the sink and had a hot soapy rub down....LOL, don't let your mind go into the gutter!

Too bad my engine bay isn't as clean. It'll be getting a power wash once, I remove everything (mostly). Will be rewiring all the added accessories/relays to the bed.

Yeah, I usually presuure wash everything too..but it is the middle of winter here in the hitherlands of Pennsylvania...so we get to work with grimy engines. Just don't want to wait for spring.
