Shredded windbuff perfection Mammoth Mtn. on Thurs.
Left Mammoth Fri am, snowed 3"

Drove thru Death Valley in the wind. This is looking into Panamint Valley

Hike to a waterfall (Darwin Falls)

Stayed at furnace creek ranch

Ran a marathon across Titus canyon road 26.4mi with 165 other peeps
Wife got 2nd in her age group. 89th finisher 5:13time.
I was 64th. 4:49hrs
Daughter was race volunteer and passed out all the medals to every finisher, and a beer to her Dad.

cast isn't my first choice in alum. wheels, but i could not $$ front for the forged this time.

i weighed them on my scale with the alum. ring and all hardware, came out to 37.9# every time.

great traction in the ice/snow so far.
I did slash a sidewall nicely in Death Valley riverbed. But i was rallying a bit fast. olice:

Beadlock install- my thoughts.

I always pound a grove/notch in the inner bead retention hump to give the tire bead something extra to grab onto before it slips over the hump. Makes a big difference keeping the inner bead from popping when your aired down. ~1.5" apart all the way around. Learned it from a baja legend.

spit on your inner tire bead little, and push the front of the rim thru the inside wall.

now set it on a 5gal. bucket face up.

Carefully line up your tire bead centered on the bead ring of the wheel.
Lay the lock ring over the tire, again centering it on the wheel and bolt holes visually.
I mark with nail polish the ring and wheel at 15* increments using 2 colors so i can remember my bolt tightening sequences.
i use copper anti-seize on all bolts.

insert 4 bolts at 15* each and finger tighten on opposites. insert 8 more between those bolts and finger tighten
Now, criss-crossing back and forth and at 30min. on your clock of bolts, start tightening to 5#, then 10# all bolts. Once your hand tight- Use a torque wrench!!!!
Like the proper lug nut sequence, only WAY more bolts. Idea is to never over tighten one section and cause the lock ring to start slipping to one side. this will cause wheel imbalance.
once at 10#, i thread rest of bolts in and tighten same way.
Final sequence torque to 15#.
recheck your torques on every bolt till they are all at 15-17'#
Takes forever. but its done correctly and may even balance well if you did it right.

How i balanced my wheels.
The ceramic beads seem to do a great job. Not always perfect balance but usually pretty good and the best part is it self corrects with tire plugs, chunking, ice/dirt in your wheels, tire rotation when aired down(this one shouldn't happen if your deadlocks are working), standard tire wear. No rebalance needed.
Ive never tried them, till now, on a more street driven rig. They work amazing on my 37" Pitbulls/beadlocks that i run on my crawler, but it sees way more dirt and rocks than pavement.

once you pour in the beads, thru the backside of the rim. pull your valve core, wet the rear bead a small bit with slightly soapy water, and fill the tire till the rear bead pops on, pressure down to ~30# immediately. 88#10oz total/each

You still alive out there? Just saw an article on the weather report for mammoth, Holy smokes that's a lot of snow! We just got about 2-3" of snow plus some ice here north of Atlanta and it basically shut everything down. Went out in the Tundra and had some fun yesterday, also took my wife's '12 LE 4R (same as your wife's) out on Friday night a few hours after it started and had some fun.

When I lived there, starting on new years eve in 2005 it snowed 9' in two days. We had tunnels to our place in the ghetto. There were cars on the road that weren't seen again until the spring and they had the windows smashed when they thawed out from the weight of all the snow.

We've been getting POUNDED this week and its not supposed to let up till Saturday. 8 more feet in town this week they predict. Gotten about 4 feet at the house since start of storm, snow mixing with rain at this elev.
Mtn. is buried.

Wonder if we knew each other? I lived with 8 roomies in the Aframe right behind GoatBar. UGLY!! :drool:

Yep. Im here! Its an amazing weather event so far, 2017!
Lots of work, but always great to see the Sierras get water, and even more amazing to see how Mother Nature can serve up a beast- and how us humans deal

Weather Dudes are calling this a Record Event and they haven't even seen the end in sight. Supposed to get a 1 day break on Sat. the 14th.
We've gotten atleast 4foot more since i took that pic. House is buried and now a full time job to keep windows and doors clear, my deck is a lost cause. Roof is getting sketch and has 6' of VERY dense snow on it as we had mixed rain/snow for a couple days. Now were back to low temps and lighter snow. Last night it switched from freezing rain to snow, dropped 8" by 6am.

I live about 5min. from the lifts of Mammoth Mtn. at 8005', so we get the heavy weather, but the Mtn. gets about twice what we see on an average storm cycle.

Ha, ****! I was exhausted last night and read that year ALL wrong! thought you wrote '95. I was here in '05 for certain. I own TONIK, a retail clothing shop, we were in the Village in 05, really till '12. now we are by VONS on OLD Mammoth Rd.
I also work as a Full-time Paramedic for Mono Co. Fire Rescue in Mammoth.
Anyways, I'm sure we crossed paths a few times- spent much time in Footloose and None in Grumpys Good friends own Laka!
