There is a good chance I will be arriving at 6am Friday morning.
With work on thursday and then situating our babe we would not get in to Yuma until after midnight if we did it all on thursday. But if we leave here at 3am we will get to Yuma by 6am 2.5 hours ahead of schedule!

10-4. If you get your permits ahead of time, you probably shouldn't drive all the way into Yuma. I would just meet us in Wellton and sleep a little longer.

Ed, I will probably be arriving around 5pm at the earliest, so maybe it will be best just to meet up near the highway to avoid confusion. I can't seem to enter your coords into Google Earth. When I create a placemark and edit the coords, they won't "stick". Sorry.

Meeting at the highway is a good idea. The coordinates basically just track south from the freeway, then zig-zag west along what look like well graded roads till they get to a sand & gravel pit from the looks of it.

Maybe getting off I-8 then crossing under the freeway to meet there? Looks like a clearing on the south side of the interchange.

Will that work?

That will work Ed. I'll have a better idea on exact arrival time a few days before we leave, and we can discuss the best meeting time. Very cool! I can't wait to see your new trailer in person.

Two quick thoughts to throw out there:

1- will we be doing any combined group meals to plan for? :eatchicke

2- Do we need to bring fire wood or does this area have some form of wood available? :campfire:

:wavey:

Because of the group size, we will be doing individual meals

I doubt there will be much wood to collect, so a few of us should plan on bringing firewood.

I need a lead vehicle...

Is anyone up for being the lead vehicle? One of the challenges I have had over the last few trips is doing the navigation and all of the photography and video, etc.

I would really like to be more mobile in the group, moving from front to back, etc. to maximize the images I can capture.

So, if someone is up to navigating for the group, please PM me. You will have lots of support and help if you need it, but I would love to be more mobile on these next few trips.

THANKS :)

From the Cabeza Prieta NWR website...

"To protect scarce desert wood, only charcoal campfires are permitted."

I think we should use a fire pan and haul out our ash. If we do burn any wood outside of CPNWR, we should definitely bring our own. Scott and Al, you guys have done the trip before, would you agree?

I think that's good practice for every trip and we always do it on our little trips around here.

FYI, just found the permits in the mail. Took 7 days total. Looks like all we have to do now is call in before the trip with date, #persons, permit # etc.

Thanks Uwe, I was wondering about that since there were no data entries on the app. for that info.

Ok, I may be reading too fast!

Can someone tell me the address that the permit forms are to be sent to along with my self addressed stamped envelope? I'v found about 4 addresses but it's unclear to me which to use.

I am also looking into the possibility of picking up a permit at Luke Airforce Base.

Thanks
Brian

Chris,

I totally agree about the wood. There won't be any at all to scavange. What ever we burn, we will need to supply. I also agree we should use a fire pan & haul out the ashes.

Scott,

I'll keep my eye on BT or else we will wind up in the El Pinacate & Bahia Adair. Of course, that ain't all bad.:suning:

That's because it's valid for up to a year depending when you get it (expires June 30th) and you can use it for multiple trips.
