Evoque: I have seen the future of Land Rover ...

The air suspension is the worst part of the LR4, cant believe people are defending that. The Evoque is LRs Rav4...a nice all weather wagon for mom to pick up the kids from soccer practice.

Despite what anyone thinks about Jeep the wrangler rubicon is the most complete factory offroader and has the greatest aftermarket support.

Ill save criticism of the Defender concept as it is just that, a concept. I dont believe LR with screw that one up.

Evoque was named Car of the Year by Top Gear Magazine for 2011. Jeremy Clarkson, one of the hosts of the Top Gear TV show, says the Evoque was his favorite vehicle for the year.

The newer Jeep Wrangler's may be great from the factory, but for only that, because after 50,000-60,000 miles they are just complete junk...as are most chrysler products. I had one, took amazing care of it. Still was no good. They're great offroaders, but only if you can afford the constant repairs. Sold it and bought a 100 series landcruiser. just my .02

Most interesting but now that you mention it, I do know of a couple JK's that are on their second engine and transmission while still under 100,000 miles. Will be interested to see how they hold up but as mentioned here, I'm not too terribly impressed with the reliability of Chrysler products.

I THINK IT WILL BE HONEST TRUTH TO SAY THAT MORE JUNK LAND ROVER ENGINES HAVE BEEN MADE AND REPLACED THAN JEEP MOTORS. NO AUTO MAKER MADE MORE UNRELIABLE SUSPENSION THAN LAND ROVER, AND GUYS DONT EVEN DREAM OF COMPERING THE JK OFFROAD PERFORMANCE WITH THIS LATEST LAND ROVER CRAP,

AS MUCH AS I LIKE LAND ROVERS BUT I STILL HAVE TO SAY >>> NEW JEEP WRANGLER IS A REAL 4X4

IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT JEEPS OR CHRYSLER BEING UNRELIABLE THEN DON'T FORGET THAT IN SO CAL. LAND ROVER DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGERS ARE HIDING BEHIND BULLET PROOF GLASS LOLL

SO BE REAL, DON'T COME UP WITH STORES. AND IF YOU HAVE OLDER LAND ROVER TAKE CARE OF IT AND DON'T LET IT GO, ITS OVER

I came across a white one in my neighborhood. I had to size it up against my Classic GDE :)

This cracks me up.

"It ended with the D1 and RRC"

Reminds me of, "It ended with outboard headlights" or especially "It ended with a plastic grille and vinyl dash" or "It ended with the demise of leaf springs."

Get with the program. If Land Rover doesnt advance with the times (as the Evoque is an excellent example of) then the company dies. Simple as that. Its a great car for the intended market segment. End of story.

I think the Evoque is a perfect compliment to the LR stable. LR needs to own the spectrum of AWD/4WD from DD's that can handle snow/ice to the extreme overland/commercial/scientific/military with a balance of reliability and cutting edge technology. Let all the other 2WD street cans fight over the remaining market space. I even think the D100 is a good idea for a NEW product as is. The Evoque is doing great justice to LR so leave it alone....and focus your dissatisfaction on the DC100 as the replacement for the Defender where it belongs.

Build your own car, people. All cars suck. I have worked on jeeps , land cruisers, rovers etc. I have also owned all three brands . Every car has some sh@ty design features and qualities. This new vehicle makes me sad, but then again I'm not looking to replace my series. Comparing a Just Kidding to this styling exercise is a ridiculous discussion topic. The JK is unimpressive in many ways ( I have worked on them, not an arm chair mechanic with virtual skills) but I guess it is the only "real" 4WD that can be purchased in the US, sadly.

These images should illustrate that all cars suck. Ford has sentenced an 8 year span of trucks to the junk yard with a completely inconvenient method of cylinder head removal.

What has to be considered by the new landrover owners i.e. Tata , is their bottom line , which has just come in last quarter at about 300% above forcast , their target market is no longer USA No 1 its China etc , where its rocketing . They are selling the vehicles that MOST people want , and thats not us , the sort of people that frequent these type of forums and are more old style 4x4 . BMW and Ford made a real error of judgement , BMW made their good call when they chose Mini , Tata bought at the right time in the devlopement schedule . and their management style etc is very different to the western model , they are still a family firm !! Land rover is looking good for the future , from their perspective if not from ours JMHO

Sorry to offend the off-road elite out there, but as a new Evoque owner I've gotta say this is the best vehicle I've ever owned... Traded in my Grand Cherokee with 5.7L Hemi and have never looked back. I can't speak to the history or legacy of Land Rover, but I can say this a great vehicle to drive and I can't wait to get my Evoque dirty. The level of comfort and style, coupled with 4x4 capabilities suits many people perfectly. Granted, I'm not the hard-core overlander yet, but this is one hell of a first step. Granted, you may not find me knee-deep in mud, but I figure if that's where I want to go, I figure a Defender would be a nice compliment the Evoque.

Don't let the haters get you down, brother. You're knee deep in a group of guys that will cheerfully pay $45,000 for a "clean" rustbucket designed in the late 1970s. Old habits (and opinions) die hard. :) We're all just jealous that your Evoque is faster, quieter, more efficient, more reliable, more luxurious and probably not much less capable given the typical "overland"-style trail.

Enjoy your new truck and welcome to the green oval disease!

Fantastic! I can't wait to see some trips in your Evoque pop up!
