"Comparing an LR4 to a JKU is pretty apple-orangey anyway"

Yes, the LR4 is like taking a cadillac off road.

When I was talking $70K, I was referring to what it would cost if you had it outfitted to the specs this AEV Jeep I just purchased is spec'd. But I was wrong ... it would most likely push 80K. :)
-- Front Rear Offroad Bumpers, Swing Away Tire Carrier, Front Hella 4000's, Warn 9000, Synth Line, Heat escape hood, Sliders, 35' BFG KM2', Dana 44 front rear, Atlas 4:1 t-case, Front and rear lockers, full under belly armor, 5:16 gears, ProCal tech., Tilt Roof Rack, ... AND THE TOP COMES OFF!!

I think the DC100 is pretty cool.

I wouldn't put the Defender name on it though.

Replacement Freelander? Make the Freelander a real 4x4 toy to compete against the FJCs and such of the world? I think that would work as a product and marketing.

Defender needs solid axles, short overhangs and a utilitarian look. Add all the passive/active safety stuff to make it past 2018[sic]. How hard can it be?

Well I have owned and driven about 15 different land rovers from a series 3 to a RR sport. Including 4 Defenders and three

diesels so I know a little about land rovers. Also two jeeps and 4 land cruisers and I much prefer the land rovers. Of the three brands the jeep was the least well built.
Now I care nothing about getting into a pissing match about Jeep v LR. It's pointless and has been done again and again. I was simply pointing out that your statement was untrue. Besides the LR4 and the Wranler are not comparable vehicles. Wrangler v Defender ok. More the same buyer and same use.
BTW I notice you have taken pretty much all the Jeep guts out and replaced them with after market manufacturers.
How much does that giant trailer of yours weigh? Jeep only tows 3500 pounds and towing something that large with the weak 3.6 engine good luck. Good thing you have replaced your jeep gearing.

Point of clarification- Trailer is only large when unfolded (swiss army knife). All aluminum body, so 2200lbs. Jeep will have no problem with gearing. I may go Hemi after warranty expires.
I wish not to get into a pissing match.
While trying to decide what to do, I was told by Scott Brady: "the platform must be usable for you ... not you adapt to the platform."

As to the quality of the Jeep- If you haven't been in a 2011 or 2012 model- don't. You'll drive home in one. Several rover folks have ridden in my wife's Rubicon and commented that "this is what Land Rover should have done with the 110 in the US!"

I agree with your statement about the LR3/4 in comparison. While totally capable, ... just found it really difficult to take a luxury truck off road. I like feeling like I am in a truck! Unbelievably, so did my wife!

PS: "giant trailer of yours" is a direct reflection of the online hang. Run with dogs ...

I like your giant trailer actually. I drove a 2011 jeep unlimited 4x4 for 6 weeks and never thought of trading my 110 for one. Hated the 3.6 engine.
However, if jeep ever decides to sell the diesel version, well that's a different story.:)
In the USA that is.

This is funny,

What is the "Future" of Land Rover you're complaining about? Land Rover is producing the most reliable, and most capable vehicles in its history. Customer Service is better, fuel economy is better, with more power. The build quality is the best it has ever been.

Do you really want Land Rover to go back to being the one of the least reliable car brands in the United States?

The Evoque is a great vehicle, and it actually does well off road. There are virtually no blind spots in the vehicle that you notice, plus, they have blind spot monitoring. 240 HP was very fun in the car, but I can't wait for more power.

Matt:
I drove the Evoque. Yes it is a great truck- if you are looking for something that you can take your wife to the opera in the snow.
But take it on the Canol highway? Why? It is just to froo- froo.
And if you go back to my post about the Evoque you see it next to a 2012 Ford Explorer ... IT IS THE SAME TRUCK! (Sans the grill and head lights) for a $25,000 premium (just for the green oval ... which I also couldn't find on the truck.)

Apparently the old Land Rovers cannot do the Canol Road either.

It's not the same as a 2012 Ford Explorer. Not close!

The production models will have a green oval. The pre-production model you drove had a black oval.

I'm pretty sure anyone planning to do an overland trip or the Canol trail or whatever would be sensible enough to buy an appropriate vehicle, like a Defender. Which is why LR still makes that vehicle. The RR Sport, Evoque etc pay the bills so LR can still produce vehicles like the Defender.
Just like Jeep makes rubbish like the Compass etc so they can produce the Wrangler. Although Jeep does make the mall version in 2wd unlike LR.

This isn't a jeep verses LR arguement.

But is it just me?

sad that they are producing a Range Rover that has taken almost all of its design elements from the 2012 Ford Explorer and mixed in a little LR2/Range Rover Sport.

http://www.newfuturecars.com/2012-ford-explorer/

Base Price $28,190.00
And seats 7!!

Base Price $43,995
1007_01z2011-land-rover-range-rover-evoquefront_three_quarters_view-1.jpg

For the Base Price of the Evoque- I can buy a completely loaded 2012 Jeep Rubicon with a Freedom top, and have all of the technology plus instead of a glass top, go completely topless! For the price of the fully loaded Evoque (over $70K) I can get a fully loaded AEV with a HEMI!!

It just seems that this truck is designed to compete with the BMW X5 crowd. Which is fine. And yes, the newer LR is way more reliable than the days most of us that are LR enthusiasts love (89-98 era land rovers), that I totally agree with.

No Evoque costs $70k. No matter if you add every factory option. What's sad is that someone would spend $70k to add a hemi to a jeep. Jeep engines aren't good enough?
This is not a jeep v LR it's just a clarification of BS info you keep throwing out.
Also, you are correct on one point. You will continue to see Ford products that resemble LR's in the future. When Ford sold LR they raided the cupboard so to speak and basically stole technology and future product info from LR.
The reason you see it in Ford products first is because ford can bring things to production quicker for many reasons but one big one is because they don't do the same level of testing. And the product is similar but not nearly as high quality. If you think an Explorer is the same as a LR, just go drive one. If you still think they are the same, then I understand why you bought a Jeep. That's not a dig, you are now a jeep guy and obviously you really like it. I just don't understand why you keep posting in the LR section, just to put down the product and praise your jeep.
