I am looking for a suggested expo truck tool kit? What are the essential tools that should be included and takend into the field.

I see two options; buy a pre-packaged tool kit and supplement it as the need arises; or start with nothing in the kit and do ALL of the work on the truck from that tool kit. As you need a particular tool add it to the tool bag/box. The former approach means that you're likely carrying tools that you'll never use on your truck. The latter approach means that unless a tool that works on your truck works on someone else's you may not be able to help them.

When I set up the tool kit to carry in my glass buggy weight is an extreme consideration, I used the latter method. I recently put together a tool bag for chasing desert racers and I used the former method there.

There are threads here about tools and most have posts in them telling or even showing what folks carry.

Of course you need the basic hand tools but I think a lot of it depends on what vehicle you're driving and how well you know it. All the tools in the world won't help if you don't know what to do with them as far as fixing what's broken.

Also, don't try and skimp and put a cheap tool kit in your truck. I did that, and when I did break down and it was pouring rain, I was really hating those cheap tools, especially when a wrench rounded a nut off. The cheap tool kit ended up in the trash and the money I spent on it was wasted.

Most importantly is making sure you have the tools that match your vehicle rather than a "good tool set." For example on my 2000 Ford Super Duty I need 1/2, 3/8, and 1/4" drives and a 24mm or 15/16" socket in case I lose an injector (which is more than possible), as well as a 10mm deep socket in 1/4" drive and a magnet stick. Unfortunately this takes time wrenching on your certain vehicle so I would say ask this question in your section (Jeep, Toyota, or whatever) rather than a general 'recovery and tools' section for the best answer. Otherwise anything that 'works and won't break' is usually fine.

I do all my work and maintenance right out of my rig so that way I know I always have the tools I need. I do carry a volt ohm meter that has been the only one in the group to do electrical repairs. With that and a short roll of wire the junk in my rig has been the hero more than once. A hacksaw blade and file set has also saved the day along with rubber fuel and vacuum tubing. The other thing is a real hammer. I carry a small ball pien and a 2.5 lb hand sledge. Beating stuff with a rock or ratchet handle is not the same when you are in desperate need of good clean hits on a cold chisel or punch.
