Fan to mitigate dust

Spent 2 hours eliminating all gaps in the tailgate with a seal kit, currently using a bed cover. No light goes through. With Utah dust, it‘s still terrible after offroading. Tons of fine dust getting in.
Will have soon a pop up camper on the truck and I am looking at options because I don’t want to have the interior of my built have a thick coat of dust everywhere each time I get in. A guy here uses a marine vent to create positive pressure, but you need to drill in the brand new camper. DustBox is worst (huge, and expensive). Some said they had success with turning the Maxxfan on letting air in, but I don’t get how it works when you have someone in front of you (which happens all the time) and suddenly you blow in a giant dust cloud in your camper.

Anyone would like to share their experience?

Positive pressure (filtered, if you like) will be helpful, but I think you may not be done sealing if you haven't looked under the bed-sides and caps--enough room there to fit an army of mice, gnats, fleas & dust-- While you might find a gap big enough to supply a fan, you probably want to close what you find.
You can caulk the gaps, but you'll likely need backer-rod or other foam to support it across openings bigger than 1/4". Another option is to use metal foil tape for HVAC ducts, sticks well after a quick clean of the surface with rubbing alcohol.

You’re gonna have to drill a hole. I think it’s almost impossible to seal up the bed to be dust proof. I have an Alucab camper on my Tacoma and I put one of these horse trailer roof vents in the roof that opens forwards and backwards. When it’s open forward it creates plenty of positive pressure and I get no dust in the back, even on slower trails. $50 and a jigsaw. I’ve had it installed for years now with no issues.

I have used my MaxxFan for 8 years to create positive pressure in camper while on dusty roads.
I drive slow and don't follow someone kicking up dust.

I also made sure the back of my camper was air tight. Light isn't a good indicator as it will not turn corners, while air currents will. Pressurize your camper and use a fine powder to find leaks; a bow hunting friend can show you how he detects slight air currents.

I went for overkill on the dust proofing for my camper. An oversized air filter and 4wd snorkel feeding a boating bilge blower to pressurise the cabin. No dust intrusion at all. The blower was switched off the light circuit.

The simple solution is a hole in your habitat where the air pressure is high when you are moving (front), along with a shroud to keep rain out, as well as a screen to keep out bugs.

If your rig is well sealed, this hole doesn't need to be large, because there won't be much airflow through it.

I have this type of vent on each side of my canopy and it minimises the dust in the back by virtue of positive air pressure.
