While I do have several heavy duty blades like the Bushman and the pilot's survival knife, I prefer the thinner, easy cutting blades like the Mora and Swedish Frosts (e.g. Swedish army knife).

I agree with your choice and reasons...I have had good luck so far with my Mora of Sweden. Easy to use, easy to sharpen, comfortable, sturdy grip, good steel, with a quality, simple sheath, all told a lightweight package, and at about $12.00 out the door...also easily replaced!

I carry the small key knife everyday. Does most of what I need on a daily basis without taking up any space. It also has a small Phillips and flat head screw driver and bottle opener.

The Spyderco is my kayaking and climbing knife. Clips to my harness or PFD and I have had it for several years.

I apologize if the picture comes out as a link to click. After the upgrade all my pictures appear as links.

Hey Kelly, I liked my Spyderco, but for my rescue vest I just went to a Wenoka dive knife and I don't think I'll ever go back. I forget who the major brand is but they are amazing. Plus I really like the double clip lock and the bolt on aspect of the sheath. flat out best river knife I've ever used.

This is the one I have (mines the High-Vis Yellow color though): Apparently I have the compact model and there is a bigger one that I might like better, but as it is it can get in the way on the front of my vest (not that often though)

Here's my new field knife: the Gerber Yari II Drop Point: such an awesome knife with a very versatile sheath system...

Edit: Never mind Kellymoe, I see the spyderco you're using, I really like those and that idea of having a caribener on teh knife in general...

mm lets see

I have a 3$ machete from venezuela which does most camp and trail chores ...hacking a path, clearing brush and chopping firewood.

The fiskars hatchet others mentioned I just bought in the UK worked great in clearing brambles
the curved end also works for pulling cut brush out of the way.

Actual knife- I bought a glock knife- but was'nt that impressed, its more of a bayonet than a nice tool

Recently I've been looking at the gerber ASEK for a nice utility knife....
or the more original looking alaskan camp knife combo..

The gerber gator machete is cool looking but without a retaining type hilt its 18" of very sharp missile, there's a hole for a lanyard, but its length defenitely means you need something to stop it swinging off into the wilderness.

The $2 machete is my fave:)

SO UK, I take it from your description that you got one of the Gerber/Fiskars "brush clearing" machete's??? It's got the long handle and the curved balde? One of these guy's:

If so, I think you'll soon agree it's one fo the best trail clearing devices ever. Having used alot of machete's I find this thing to be the absolute best there is. I love mine and I think I;m getting a second one to be hard mounted in my truck.

Cheers

Field knives...I have only two as I don't believe in being a collector. My Camillus fighting knife saved my butt a few times in conflicts and I stick by it because it works and its simple. May not be attractive, but gets the job done time and time again. My other knife is a discontinued Crawford Kasper folder which has the means of a LAWKS system which locks the blade and makes it into a fixed blade. It's big, but lays flat and used it to disarm an intruder trying to steal my car.

Here's mine- my GF commissioned it from my brother (who makes custom knives
for a living) for my birthday:

I usually carry it when out in the woods- hunting, fishing, foraging, etc.

Doubt I will ever buy another knife unless I lose one of these. Top is the Leatherman wave (excellent saw) The old timer speaks for its self, and the Boker is more efficient than a buzzard when it comes to game harvest.

For daily use, I carry either a CRKT M-16 folder or a Gerber Paraframe folder. Both are light weight, durable and easy to use.

I have noticed that most of the posts have been stock pictures and those of knives that clearly don't get used. I wanted to post a couple pics of what I believe to be the perfect knife. Not because it looks cool, because it gets used.

First, it has been used many times a day for many years. It is a tool, just like any other I own. It has been abused in almost every manner possible. It holds and edge athough it it doesn't take one easily. The clip is on the correct end (not side) of the knife and can be converted for left or right hand use. It is smooth, safe and strong as an ox. Here it is:

Looks as bad as mine, i use mine daily and im the second owner... its still as sharp and straight as the day it was made. I just don't really have a photo of my benchmade.

Dude, 1 of 1000? That's awesome.

Based on looks alone, this is the best knife here. Of course I am sure the blade is great as well.

Actually, it's just 1 of 1000, not number 1 of 1000. Hence the abusing :D
