FJ Cruiser Wheel, Tire & Suspension Set Up

So I finally got the set up for the FJ Cruiser, now I just have to find time to install the suspension. At least I had time to get the tires mounted!

SwayAWay (Race Runner) 2.5 coilover kit.

I decided to stay with the factory size 265/75R16, which is around 31.6". I didn't want to deal with re-gearing and changing the speedo. Plus with the type of wheeling I do, 31.6" vs. 33" won't make much of a difference.

The FJ came with the 17" alloy's which are the same overall diameter size, but less side wall.

What tire size are you going with?

Here's some pics of the before and after. I'm going out to Anza Borrego/Truckhaven Hills later this month to see how it does off-road vs. the factory set up. So far on the road it feels tighter on the corners - more solid. It is a bit stiffer going over speed bumps. But all in all, the on-road characteristics are better in my opinion. Definite thumbs up on this system.

I plan to run the same 255/85/16 I run on my taco. I guess the 285 is a good option but since this rig will see mostly d.d. duty the skinny tires should save a little fuel and the lighter wieght will preserve performance.

This is my daily driver too. I already have 21K on it and it's just a year old.

I think we'll be fine with the tire choice. Like you, I'm also concerned about fuel mileage.

Are you planning on changing your suspension?

Yes my goals are OME heavy kit, 255/85/16 maxxis bighorns. I will add bumpers, winch, rear drawer, fridge, lights, and some other electrical upgrades. Then a campa trailer. I am considering making my own bumpers again since I di not really car for any of the available options right now. Especially the rear. If I do not fab my own front I will get a a warn or expedition one and fab my own grill guards for it. We will see.

so you're going witha 33" tall tire. Any issues with tire rub?

Well if there is it iwill just be the body mount but I have already modified 3 of them for friends fitting 35's. It is not a big deal to do.

Can you tell me more about these wheels? I think I want to put these on my 4Runner.

these will fit your 4 runner no problem. And I think they look really good. I prefer to keep my mods as close to factory as possible, and with TRD they are factory. And I don't like the way that most aftermarket wheels stick out.

I'm sure if you are patient and look around you'll find some take offs. If not from the dealer, than people on the forums. Check out this forum, since it's all FJ Cruiser: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/
