Finally watched it. Amazingly all 3 done it (don't count #%# decision of leave the car on the hill).

the zuk was the best because it was closest to OEM. can't figure out why they went with the oversized tires or why they very obviously decided to kill the land cruiser.

That was one of the most entertaining Top Gear episodes I have seen. Funny from the beginning to the end. But I agree it was sad to see them roll the Toyota.

They thought desert would require high foot print and big tires would have then on mountain rocks. Based on the video it appears they could of do it with good set of 33s.
Killing FJ was "stupid" as it was a nice truck. They put 10k into it by adding expensive HID lights and light bar on the roof, professionally build roll cage (its even had a manufacture sticker on driver handle), suspension lift and 35 BFG AT.

killing the FJ was stupid indeed - i could see adding tires to the overweight rover but not to the FJ. somehow the desert sand/soil of that region doesn't behave in the same way as other sandy soils (at least that i've driven on). maybe its because its volcanic but the stuff i ran into in southern peru (similar to the terrain in western bolivia/northern chile) seem to compact much less than sand in the desert in nevada or california. they do make bricks out of that stuff (sillar). anyway, i don't think they did their research in that regard.

as funny as these guys are the show is tough to watch sometimes, especially when they regress into that stereotypical 19th century british imperial mode: tearing apart a mercedes next to people surviving on pennies, destroying an FJ on a hillside for the hell of it, etc. i know they aren't anthropologists but a little less brashness would play better

Very very entertainment episode !

Bolivia is a fantastic place to do hard core expeditions.

This episode meant a lot of work for us and one all nighter putting all the equipment together to be air freighted for the show next day.

We have some behind the scenes pictures on our site that Top Gear fanatics will probably enjoy. You can also see some of the equipment we sent, why we chose it for this expedition and which manufacturers/importers we hand picked from the US and Australia to supply top gear for Top Gear.

Enjoy...
