This would be a perfect size for my Disco! Did you have a local tire shop order them?

Edit: nvm just saw you got them from discount tire.

Nic,

Nice tires! How are there road manners? Are they loud like MT or quieter like AT? I think these will be replacement tires. My stock rugged trails are worn out at 42,000 miles.

They are like AT tires for sure. Manners are great and they ride smooth. These are the tires i have been waiting for. Now to get them up in the snow.

The more and more i look at them, they are truly a wider 255! I dig the width of them. The 8" rim helps with that.

What is the date code on the tires?
Cooper.com still doesnt have this size listed in the tire spec's.

Glad to see that these tires are now available in 255/85r16! Another AT option in this size indicates that the tall skinny size is not dead! I have done a lot of research about these tires over the past few months because I knew they were right around the corner, and a I am in the market for a tough AT tire. Figured I would share some thoughts....They were developed in Australia to be a mining industry/commercial traction tire to handle the abuse of the outback. An E-rated go anywhere tire, more stout than the 8ply ST. In fact I found a lot of reviews from the Ausie's on this tire, including in the 255 size. Here is the thread:

Sorry for the cross post, but there is about 8 pages of enlightening discussion on the St Maxx from the other side of the word. Some positive reviews and some negative ones, as one would expect. I also wanted to share this photo:

It's crazy how much these tires chipped in just three months. I know the Ausie's are rough on tires, but holy ****! Others reported multiple flats. After waiting for the arrival of this tire, I decided to purchase the Toyo M55s. It was a tough decision, but when traveling to remote areas as with overland/expedition use, our tires are our life lines! And the M55 has a stellar reputation for durability, puncture resistance, tough sidewalls, etc. I was also disappointed to see that Cooper didn't make this tire as tall and skinny as I would have liked. Less than 33 inches is disappointing. And these things are much wider than the old ST's. But I think for general wheeling, the ST Maxx is a great AT option, especially compared to BFG and Toyo MT options in the 255 size. Like I said, it was a tough decision not going with this tire especially given the much cheaper price tag compared to the M55's. I hope I made the right decision, I guess only time will tell....

Just found out that Interco is making the radial Trxus tire in 255/85-16 again after a couple of years of it not being available. Not quite an AT tire - more like a road tolerant MT tire. So that is another option in the tall and skinny tire world...

I called my local Cooper dealer today and gave him the item number for the 255/80/17. He called me back and said the distribution center validated the number but said availability was 2 to 3 weeks away. Still waiting... :(

Yowza, that photo of the shredded tire is sweet!! I bought a truck from North Dakota that had rear tires that looked just like that! (Not Coopers.) One of the durability tests we did when I worked at Jeep in AZ would do that to tires too. I think it's related to the amount of chipped rock on the road surface, which I would expect to find a LOT of in a mine setting. I'd like to see what a comparable set of tires looked like to that guy, since I've found Cooper's Cut and Chip Resistant tread compound to hold up very well to that sort of thing...
Wonder if there was a bad batch of rubber or something?? I'm not worried at any rate, as I've seen people do really dumb stuff to tires, or have very bad luck, and blame the tires for it anyway. I'm in love with my STT's, and I bet I like the STMaxx even more!!
Time to get some wheels painted and buy some tires!

I live in ND and I don't remember ever seeing tires like that. However, I am on the east end of the state. The west side of the state uses scoria instead of gravel on the rural roads. Thats kind of like using broken beer bottles instead of gravel. Those rocks are sharp! I don't know the roads that tire was driven on, but I suspect any tire would look similar to that tire.

I'm getting quotes of $230-$236 locally... Anyone do any better? With Tread Depot at about $31/tire shipping, they're in the ballpark of $230 also. Now that I was so excited about them, I have to really do some soul searching... $1200 for 5 tires is a lot, and I'm sorta digging my little 235/85's right now!
Wonder if Cooper will have any promotions anytime soon??

I think the last promotion I saw from Cooper was $75off for a set of 4. That seems to be about all they do lately. I think I usually see it in the Spring and Fall. So something might appear in the next few months.
