We have gotten way off topic.

the post is titled: "For those that carry Guns and Overlanding""

I think we need to discuss what Overlanding is before we can really answer this question.

Does that include the pictures posted of you on this website? Make sure you are wearing the right brands, are seen next to right brands and take a picture to assert your badassery.
Merry Christmas.

It probably should. . . Any implied badassery is an illusion.

Anymore, I try to travel for myself. 10 years ago (and even still at times), it was all infantile ego chest thumping. . . ;)

I find it interesting how "proper4wd" will stop addressing/responding to certain posters once they have proven him wrong, but at least he is amusing in the fact that he simply doesn't give up no matter how asinine his ideas may seem. So good on you there guy, I will check back later for more entertainment.

Actually, most of his arguments are well formed and well researched. Not saying that I agree with his position, but it is properly articulated in most cases.

Overlanding is Land Rovers and pockets- lots of pockets.

I like to travel domestically and internationally in 4wds and on motorcycles- I call it overlanding because it is actually descriptive. Some people hate labels, most love labels. ;)

That short and concise response will take us nowhere.

Its my belief (and is also a proven point in a lot of cases) that the presence of a gun will detour a thug. Its also a known fact that most thugs are cowards and want no conflict. A gun on my hip tells them 1 thing, they will be met with conflict if they rob the restaurant I am in. These cowards will go on down the road to a different target.

So they'll still rob a restaurant, just not the one you're in since you detoured them somewhere else?

They also study the subject ad infinitum and have loads of real life & death examples to learn from.

That's crazy talk. Everybody knows that the way to learn about something is to first draw a conclusion and then go find facts to support that conclusion.

Btw: LEOs may have a conflict of interest with regards to this topic. Just sayin'.

Most happy to have such guys working for me too.

Fwiw, I dont remember seeing an undercover officer or detective open carrying.
I dunno, Maybe they are on to something ??

How can we tell if open carry works to stop a crime or make armed people targets? There is not hotline or a way to collect info from would be thieves who decided not to commit a crime because they say somebody armed. I doubt they are going to admit to murder, attempting to commit murder on a person even if caught.

Do you think bad guys log this information and report to some data collection point?
