Ford CEO Promises A New Affordable ICE Pickup Truck Coming (if you're patient)

So, if you look down the road far enough, you may be excited to know that Ford is promising a new "affordable gas engine pick up truck" as part of its production line, hopefully by the end of the decade.

With new truck prices claiming so quickly toward the hundred thousand dollar mark for a fully loaded full-size fancy four-wheel-drive pick up, the idea of building more affordable models certainly is long overdue.

It's probably too early to know exactly what they're talking about here, but this promised development certainly might be something to keep an eye on for those who you could plant for enough in the future (or who may even still be alive in @ 6 years 😙).

According to the story, linked below:
"A brand-new Ford pick-up truck, built in the United States and with an internal combustion engine, is set to enter production before the end of the decade, according to Ford CEO Chris Farley.

Speaking during the presidential visit to Ford’s Blue Oval City facility, Farley confirmed that a new “combustion truck, an affordable one," would be joining the American brand’s line-up alongside the Maverick, the Ranger, and the celebrated F-Series as part of company plans to expand one of its US manufacturing hubs. The statement also, seemingly, puts an end to any future plans Ford may have had to expand its electric pickup range"

it seems the idea for this new model comes directly from the thought that tariffs on foreign made vehicles may be around to stay, and that intelligent long-term planning for American automobile manufacturers means more of their vehicle vehicles need to be built in the United States.

"Though details regarding size and pricing are understandably sparse, Farley has, as reported by Road & Track, confirmed that production of the new and affordable pickup will begin in 2029 at Ford’s Blue Oval City facility in Tennessee. The facility, first announced in 2021 and originally slated to produce electric pickups from 2025 onwards, will be repurposed, with production expected to begin shortly thereafter.

Farley’s comments also confirm reports, briefly teased in late 2025, that an affordable combustion pickup would be joining Ford’s line-up. The as-yet unnamed, gas-powered truck effectively replaces plans for a mid-sized all-electric pickup, which was expected to be launched in 2027, priced below the $30,000 USD mark."

The F150 STX trim is low to mid-$40k, which isn't that bad.

That's as affordable as it's going to get due to the Government printing and spending a ton of money, with zero signs of slowing down the spending.

Simply add 4wd and it is $50k.

A new V8 4wd version of my pretty basic 2016 XLT is $65k which is $15k more than it was four years ago when I got mine.

68k up here. I added 4x4 and a 3.5 and it kicked me into the 201A pkg.

That more than the MSRP of the 2022 loaded up XLT 302a I factory ordered!

If I built the same truck I ordered in 2022 it comes out to 85K! And I can't even option the power pedals I had, or the front camera w/ washer. I think they also deleted the bed camera I had. Wish I could've kept that truck. I miss it.

They call it "decontenting"

Fewer chips in the same bag to keep the price from jumping as much...

Maybe in 2WD. In my area, you're lucky to get out the door high 40's. Some dealers are asking mid to high 50's for 4x4 STX. Absolutely ridiculous.

Pre covid STX prices were 41k tops. I miss those day.

Pre-Covid STX wasn’t as well equipped as today’s STX.

I’m seeing them, with 4wd, for mid-$40’s. You guys are certainly right about MSRP, which is crazy high, but current prices are about $9-10k off MSRP. And yes, if you want adjustable pedals, bed camera, etc., it certainly adds up quick!

Oof! I just realized I built a 2025 model above. 2026 STX w/ just 4x4 and 3.5 added for options comes out to 72K!!!

Ford is NUTS! I can get a pretty loaded up Ram or GM truck for that money.

Why can we not have a truck vehicle at less then a small car.
In the 1950's, 1969's and 1970's, trucks were for th working man. They got you from point “A” to point “B”.

Well to answer that there are 100 or more answers. We the consumers are the ones responsible for that. You do not buy it then they will not make it!

We took the machine for work and converted it into a status symbol.

A couple of short answers;
#1 We wanted AM radios, then we wanted FM radios, then we wanted 8 track players, then we went to cassette players the CD players they Boom boxes, the Woofers then Surround sound, Satellite receivers for music WiFi for computers, movies and TV for the kids (BIG and small). (*1)

#2 Another shorter one. Windows with cranks,to power windows, Windows with clear glass to tinted glass. Windows with flat glass to curved window glass.

#3 We got rid of the Vent wing windows. Look it up at; https://www.fastlanecars.com/blog/wing-windows-history-and-classic-car-design.
We went to the hanging swamp cooler off of your side windows (After market). To AC and heating to heated and cooled seats.

The list keeps going on and on. Then we have the vehicle safety, air quality, fancy wheels and the list keeps going.

The new car comes with a paint job but the one my wife just got has a extra $450.oo for a metallic paint job.

(*1) I remember the first radio I built in Cub Scouts, we used a safety pin and a quarts crystal rock and made our own radio. the kit cost about $.49. The they came out with a 2 transistor, 9 volt radios and the more transistor the more expensive it was, expensive about $1.50 and they worked.
I was young then, middle age, then old aged, then antique, to just short of dust!

Yes, I had some free time today. Enjoy
