Ford CEO Promises A New Affordable ICE Pickup Truck Coming (if you're patient)

Today’s midsize trucks are as big as 1970s full size 1 ton trucks. Cars shrank and trucks grew huge.
Years ago Car and Driver parked a new Dodge Dakota next to a 90's D150 and they were nearly the same size. I saw the article about Toyota planning on a midsized truck for the US. Wasn't that the Tacoma? Glad to notice the desire for us to have smaller trucks, but I wonder if we are getting what we truly want? The examples above are body on frame with real 4 wheel drive. We are getting AWD El Caminos offered up instead. Works for in town for sure, and on gravel roads, but not for really getting out. That is what a Tacoma or Canyon, or Ranger are for, I guess!

Dakota always hit different, the early ones could even be had with a 8' bed. V8's were common too. Again overall smaller than a fullsize by quite a bit though.

Me too. They don't need to add a fourth truck. three is plenty. I guess even more when you consider the different super duty platforms.

It's already hybrid too. It shouldn't be rocket science to make it plug in hybrid or even straight up electric.
