I'm fairly new to the world of 4x4 vanning- but had seen some conversation about these 4x4 Synchro vans being hard to find, so I figured I'd post this up from my local (Albuquerque NM) craigslist.

Is it as nimble as it looks?

I love the length of it, with the mirrors on it you can back it up as easily as a car (I am sure I can see right around they are so far out :Wow1: ). If there is a down side to it for me it is that it is wide. Sitting in front of my brothers 3500HD it is about 1' to 1.5' wider on the mirrors and the back is a good 2' wider.

That being said it has EVERYTHING inside so the trade off in the little extra width is soon forgot when you can take a hot shower, cook a meal and sleep in a nice soft bed :sombrero:

Not sure if you can see this link if you do not belong but here are some of the mods I have done, shows very little of the overall RV http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/29093048.cfm

I'd probably throw Ujoint on the rear but MGs coil kit in the front, would make for a lot smoother highway drives. Either way you couldn't go wrong that thing looks so agile compared to most "RVs" out there.

The smooth ride of coils up front would be nice, but with the height of the body and tall center of gravity of an RV, I think the firmness of leaf springs might make it feel more stable. Just guessing though. I've been driving a leaf sprung 4x4 (SMB conversion) van for ten years so I know they are not always really cushy on rough roads, but they are really durable and stable.

Let's not forget that the RV currently rides on coils with a sway bar. ;)

I think with the proper spring rate and a big front sway bar it would be fine, and ride a little smoother. Actually I think a big REAR sway bar would be more critical on an RV like that personally.

Either way I would be halfway interested in a rig like that IF it had the v10. And that's assuming the tanks and water lines are inside and heated. I see the shorter chinooks with a rear bed and a dinette and it gets me excited. Haha. I could easily strap two car seats in the dinette, facing each other. Would make a great traveling rig. The unfortunate side of the chinook (with no bed over the cab) and this one, is that for small kids you still have to move car seats to make beds for everyone. Same reason the eb-50 plan doesn't work for us.

It still blows my mind that I could have tucked my 86 vanagon syncro under a tarp for 15 years and made a big profit on it. I miss the van but not the constant break downs and hard to find parts.

Yeah, I could say the same about Toyota FJ40's, I had 3 of them in high school and now they're all made of gold.

We've had in the family many a VW bug, Karmann Ghia, Thing, bus and sand rail (also all turned to gold in recent years), but haven't given much thought to VW since they dropped the standard air-cooled transaxle. I was pretty surprised when I found the synchro thread and learned so many deep-pocketed folks are KooKoo over the Synchro. I figured that at $9k, this one was worth bringing to someone's attention.

Only ever owned one Fj40... and parted out a 45 to make it better. 26 years later it is still in my driveway. :D I suspect it's worth a lot more than I realize... they tend to not sell for a lot here locally.

Help with pricing 45k mi e350 7.3 eb

I am thinking of moving to the Sprinter. My van is awesome and I hope I'm trading one great rig for another. 2003 extended e350 7.3 with 45k mi. The van was converted by Ujoint in 2014 at 15k mi with all the bells and whistles. It has a penthouse top from smb, aluminess roof rack with ladder and solar. Interior is sienna seats up front, MG transformer sofa / bed, webasto dual top, Engle top loading fridge. Electrical Is well sorted blue sea components with 120 shore power and battery charging. Water 15 gal fresh and 5 gal Grey with a galley sink up front and hand shower in back. Cabinets and trim are all king starboard. I have invested in great components and taken my time with the build which is at about 95% only missing some of the final trim on interior.

The van is in nor cal and this is not a for sale thread yet. Any thoughts on what a fair price for something like this might be? I've looked at the pricing for pre-owned SMBs and see ranges for this mileage but what kind of premium does the real low mileage 7.3 really add?
