First short bus I've seen with a regular passenger door. Too bad there's not a bolt on 4x4 kit. It'd still make a cool camper.

I agree on all points..I also believe this platform is highly underrated as a RTW rig. I know the die hard overlanders would disagree but I would rather drive a dead nuts simple rig that I'm familiar with than something that is tied to some worldwide brand.
These vans (although maybe not one with can-bus) are dead nuts simple, I have a series of three books from Ford that tells me exactly how to work on it, and a diagnostic reader. Parts can be shipped in from anywhere if they aren't carried in or on the truck and installed with my hands and tools.
Converting to 4wd isn't hard, and sprung/pivoting frames, doors, windows and departure angles can all be fabricated.
I do think I would prefer a FRP uhaul box as they seem to be easily modifiable to customize box size dimensions.
Opps, I'm preaching to the choir here right....

If I were to start it over again I might have started with a short bus. It might be safer to transport

Ya I never even considered using a small box truck as a camper until now after learning more and more and when I saw it, it hit me.
Jsweezy, it's perfect for 2 people but I am a little leary about transporting a family of 3 in it since one of us would have to ride in the back. Just FYI. I wish I had thought
more about that before I started building it. I guess it wouldn't be a whole lot different than a standard sticks and staples class c or a. What do you think?

I thumbed through your videos, looks like a fun project.
I like the horizontal door in the back for a "tailgate" it was a thought I have had too, although putting both doors horizontally with the hinges at the top for the top one as an awning and when down as a safety/protective cover for a big window in the old door opening.
Also, might be to late now, for seating more than 2, if you put a dinette behind the driver (class c style) the seats behind the driver could swivel forward with seat belts, or swivel back to face the dinette.

Here's another box truck, with a utility body. Cuts down on the interior space, but lots of cool compartments. Yeah, I know it's an F350, but that would make for an easier 4wd swap.
Any thoughts on (presumably) heavier steel body vs. fiberglass box truck? I like the idea of the steel box, sort of like my ambo but heavier... Definitely makes it easy to bolt things on, stand on top, whatever. But maybe more weight than you really need in the middle of nowhere?
