FOUND Vans For Sale!

Still looking. Wife told me to crunch some numbers! I have probably $16-18K trade-in with probably another possible $5-10 to put into it.
Would like a passenger, diesel, 1-ton. I can work with 7.3 or 6.0 as long as van hasn't circumnavigated the earth 10 times. My plan is to convert to 4x4 (preferably with a UJoint kit) and add a pop-top at some point. Not too worried about adding inside accessories such as fridge, potty...

On eBay, seems like a legit deal? Not a passenger, but for $13K getting a 2008 6.0 with 11K miles doesn't look too bad. Has 4X4 from quigley already. Clean van with appears to be little to no rust. Interested to see if there is paperwork to go along with the van.
Doesn't look like any rear air. would have to remedy this before the kiddes will be allowed to ride (per the wife)

Another on eBay. Cargo, 6.0 with 109K miles. $10K and not too far from the house. Only problem with cargo, finding one with rear air, "passenger" windows on door. clean carfax

Autotrader. 2006, 6.0 with 88K miles. $17K for a clean passenger with 3.55 limited slip rear. Located in AZ, so should have little to no rust. clean carfax. If I play with the numbers, isn't this a little high in price? I know there is a premium for passenger diesel.

Cars.com. 2005, 6.0 with 35K miles. $27 for a 4x4 sportsmobile. Located in CA. No rear seats, but loaded with the amenities, including a pop-top. I could "alter" the interior to accomodate seats for the kids and be able to utilize or sell the accessories that are already installed.

craigslist in NJ.
1997 with 7.3 Chateau package. 154K miles for $6500.
Looks a little beat-up maybe score a good price for the condition. Rust concerns since from the North East.
Judging from the condition, I don't think the wife would allow me to drive something this "worn" as a primary.

CrabbyMcNab,

My advice is that you stay away from higher mileage 6.0's. With a lower mileage, newer model year 6.0, you can take a few steps to eliminate most of the common issues that arise with that powerplant. With the higher mileage ones, sometimes the damage is already done.

With the 7.3 you can push the mileage a bit higher, but then you are looking at all the wear and tear associated with an older vehicle. And 7.3's are not without their own issues, albeit, most are less catastrophic than a failing 6.0.

I am really glad that I found a van with power windows and locks, as well as, rear air. These convenience items really make it a nicer experience. Adding those things later would be a huge pain. You have listed some nice vans, so you know they are out there. And yes, the Diesel Wagons will command a premium price.

Good luck!

My thoughts exactly! If it were closer to me, I would be all over it!

I would not be afraid to fly and drive. it makes it an adventure.

just did it actually just drove 2500 miles to get my Elvis Beluga whale from Maine. and I live in Montana. enjoyed the trip.

if it was in my price range and I didn't already have a van I would fly and drive.

just my .02
