Franken Rover Overlander

Took it out for a spin to test out the new steering column, I added 6 inch to the column and shaft to move the steering wheel closer. These let me actually fit my leg under the wheel to use the brake pedal. Also note my new intake, doesnt clear the hood but also is leak free.

sanding and sanding, many cans of primer. Im trying to get rid of the brush strokes from the previous paint job done by what must have been a 5 year old with a paint brush. I dont even really care about the dents and dings, the point of this paint job is to make the truck one color and not have brush strokes all over it. Going through primer cans makes me reconsider the paint colors since I want to use whatever I can easily get my hands on at walmart. Its looking like it will probably be expo white.

Gloss white is pretty bright white. Ill go back and touch up the spare mount later. And this car painting business is not something Im about to do again, pretty tedious

So if your frame is not cut, and still at 100" a la Range Rover / Discovery, you have a 100" hybrid which is regarded as one of the best Land Rovers ever built - Land Rover made some one-off specials for the Dutch Army as party of a tender - check out the Mark Evans "A 4x4 is Born" DVD - shows a complete build up plus goes into a lost of the history of the Hybrid.....

Im going with spray since Im doing it in chunks when I get the time and I think a roller would bleed when going over the rivets.

never knew they came from the factory thats awesome ill definetly look into it

On a project note I've got most of tub primed, also i took a closer look at the footwells and its looking like ill need to make some replacements. I dont want the panel that holds the brake pedal to be rusty, good thing all the panels on this things are flat squares.

I looked into that 4x4 is born, its on youtube. His just looks like a long defender. I like how mine has the same length body but has the wheels all the way out at the corners, 0 angles.

Your body is shorter (built for an 88" wheelbase).

^^^ yeah thats the way i like it, I guess I dont see why the rover built in the video is all that special. Mine seems to have more going for it.

Not spec, I think that cage would be over kill for that. Was going to be a hill climb/track car, had a 4.4L V8 in it from a e39 540i. It was my personal project but I sold it since the cost of track days and a new business dont go well together

Interesting - looks FIA spec, like for a rally car....if only I had enough time/money to finally finish mine...

Yes that cage was built following spec for a rally car. It also should pass for bmwcca, porsche club, scca, or nasa. However every tech inspector likes to find something to complain about.

Gutted, M62 E30 would have been a screamer for sure.
