Freshening 4D34T engine

Hello lads,

I have a 4D34T engine swapped into my 80 series Land Cruiser. The thing is a bloody tank and I am amazed at how much grunt the engine has, but it has always had a lot of blow-by (the road draft tube smokes quite a bit) and the compression on the 4th cylinder is slow to build. For this reason, I am thinking of doing a sort of in-frame freshening up. I had replaced the bottom end bearings when I first installed the engine, so they should still be good, but the top end is a mystery.

Are there any recommendations as to a source for good quality replacement rings and gaskets? I'll probably pull the head off and pop the pistons out, inspect and decide whether I need to pull the block to re-bore. I was thinking an engine kit from the land of Oz might be the easiest way. I have family in Perth WA that could re-ship if necessary.

Thanks and Best Cheers

The engine has a vacuum pump, right? Where does it vent? I know on older Mercedes that a problem in the vacuum system can increase crankcase pressure.
