My newest edition...an Outlander Sherpa II RL trailer...complete with 35" BFG KM2 tires, same bead locked wheels that I have on the Jeep, and a Mombasa roof top tent, as well as a few more additions.

Note: this photo is a representation of the one I'll get, not the exact same one.

I like the compactness of that trailer. What's the difference between the TL and RL in the Sherpa II line? I looked at the site but it was not obvious to me. Also, can you fit an Engle in the box portion? I really like that feature in AT's Horizion trailer.

TR = Top Loading

RL = Rear Loading

I was thisclose to buying one of these before I started the custom build with Geotracker90.

TheGillz is correct...difference is how it's loaded. With having a roof top tent mounted on there, the RL was the right one for me.

nwoods...the "compactness" of the trailer is why I opted to go with this particular brand. It's nimble enough to take on trails where I won't be going back to the last campsite, or on trails I want to camp on. Examples would be the Rubicon Trail and Three Mile Rim trail in Moab.

When I first looked at this trailer, I thought it was too small. I then saw the pictures of it on their website loaded to the hilt and that changed my mind. It's also nice that I'll be able to clear 35" tires.

They're currently drawing up the plans for me and they said they'd like to have that part completed by the end of August.

At the moment, I'm debating on if I should have them make it so it will accept 37" tires. After all, I have 5 of those that I'm not using (since the 40" tires have arrived).

My concern with that is the higher the trailer is, the more unsteady it will become. So, one option is to see if they can kick the width out another 3". That would make it more sturdy as well as give me a wee bit more storage space.

nwoods...sorry, forgot to answer your question about the Engel. I have an Engel 45 refrigerator and THINK the height is 20". The trailer's storage bed is 28" tall, so there shouldn't be an issue putting the refrigerator in the trailer via the sliding tray (so you can pull the refrigerator out and lift the lid).

However, I'm hoping to fit the refrigerator between the rear Mastercraft bucket seats I'm putting in. The issue with doing that is the refrigerator is 14 1/2" wide, and I don't know if it will fit between those seats yet. I got an email from Mastercraft today and they are currently filling my order, but do not know when I'll receive the seats. Once I do, I'll be able to put them in the Jeep and see if my plan will work.

Thanks, those designators just make way too much sense. TL/RL, doh!

I would think selling the other three 37" tires would be harder than selling 5...

As for making the trailer wider, that sounds like an expensive request. Aren't they set up to produce the frame and box pieces at set width's now? Even if just the bottom frame was extended, they'd have to souce longer axles and housings, or maybe just go with with wheel spacers, but then you'd not gain the benefit of the additional storage space.

Were it to be made wider, it would be left up to them...certainly not something I would demand or expect. Making it wider is just something I thought of to help with the height if I were to put 37" tires on (which I haven't decided upon yet). Just something bouncing around in my thick head. hahahaha

With 40" tires on the Jeep, I think 35"s would work out well.

Wow...things change quick. It's been decided that the trailer will have the same wheel/tire combination that I have on my Jeep. In other words, it will have 17" bead locked wheels with a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern and 40" BFG KM2 tires. SUH-WEET! :jump:

Robert at Outlander is making the trailer completely custom...so whatever is needed will be done. VERY COOL COMPANY! :Wow1:

That makes a lot more sense. It's certainly better to have seven 40" tires around in case you need spares. Can always leave the trailer somewhere and use the Truck to get you back to civilization.

I've never seen a trailer with 40" tires before. That's going to be pretty cool looking!

I agree...should be a good looking Jeep/trailer combination sitting on 40's all around.

Robert has got some serious talent and much more experience in this area than I do. He's already thought of quite a bit that I would have overlooked. Plans thus far include LED lighting, dual battery set-up, water, and solar panels.

Just thought I'd type up a quick update...

Picked up two more Centerline ICE wheels so that my trailer and Jeep will have matching wheels. I also got a Honda generator and an A/C unit for the trailer. The trailer will have a RTT on top, so that's where the A/C will come in handy. I'll be getting the 40" tires for the trailer soon as well.

Outlander Trailers is moving forward with the build of the trailer and a projected finish date is by the end of this year.

Other than that, I'm still waiting for the computer so that I can put the 5.7L Hemi under the hood. There are also a few other things still needing to be done to the Jeep (new seats, lights, etc). It's a massive project, but progress is being made.

Wow...this thread is a blast from the past. hahaha...sorry for the long delay in updates.

After returning from Iraq I took the Jeep up to Tellico for a week of serious off-roading so that it could be taken through its paces. First thing to break was the steering stabilizer and front track bar...a result of running Lower 2 at night and not waiting for a spotter. The track bar was trail fixed at 2am by using the dual battery set-up to weld it back in place. It was enough to get it off the trail. The next day it was fixed good enough to run a mess of other trails (Helicopter Pad, Guardrail, School Bus, etc) without any problems. Once back in Florida, we fixed it REAL nice...thing is now a beast!

That was the only carnage, which ain't bad for a whole week at Tellico, one of the toughest public off-road areas on the east coast.

The Jeep will be going back into the shop in Thursday or Friday of this week for the finishing touches. The lights all have to be wired up (8 off-road lights and 6 rock lights), the skid plates have to be put on, the 4 bucket seats have to be installed as well as the 4-point seat belts, exchange the 37" tires for 40" tires, and a few other things here and there.

Installing the two rear bucket seats are going to be iffy. Normally they would fit in the back without any problems, however we want to get the Engel refrigerator between the rear seats, so that's going to be a challenge. If that doesn't work, the we'll have to put the refrigerator on the trailer (which I really don't want to have to do).

After driving the Jeep from Florida to N.C. and back, it was decided that it wasn't as underpowered as I thought it would be. In fact, it handled quite well. Because of that, and because of some time constraints, I will not be putting in the 5.7L V8 Hemi that I had purchased. If anyone wants a Hemi and tranny for $2500, just let me know. ;)

With just under 3 months before the start of the WFTW program, we're on schedule and the Jeep will be completed within plenty of time.

As for the trailer, Outlander Trailers has begun work on that and is looking to have that completed in time as well. Since they are located in Arkansas, I will be picking up the trailer after the Florida WFTW event (to keep me from driving from FL to AR to FL and then right back to AR for the event there). So, I'll be sleeping in my Jeep for the first week...which I'm not all that concerned about. Heck, after 12 years in the military and spending 14 months in Iraq, I've slept in worse places. I'll just throw a sleeping back on top of that huge Tuffy trunk and sleep there in the back of the Jeep. :)

I'm in Alaska for the winter (apparently I enjoy going from one extreme to the next), but will return to Florida around February 25th. I'll then get the Jeep all shiny and clean and take some pictures.

Guess it's time for an update...

The Jeep is back at Overbuilt Customs to get some more modifications added...
40" BFG KM2 Tires
AEV Heat Reduction Hood
Poly Performance Shocks (needed longer ones)
Rock Lights
Off-Road Lights
Skid Plates
CB
and a few other small things.

Here's a comparison picture...the left rear is a 40 and the right rear is a 37. The side shot is the 40 leaning against my friend's Jeep, which is on 37's.
