Okay, so just finished the build thread. Something significant must really have happened to be talking flare removal on 5/18 and then posting a sales ad yesterday. Hope all is alright on that end of things.

The truck sounds amazing - and done up the right way.

I looked at several rigs before I bought this one. The good condition and the great run-ability made me pull the trigger.

The head gasket is stock. I was worried about that but enough research said if you were over 130K miles, you were in the clear.

The pesky heater hose was replaced by factory rubber bits. I only learned of the 'upgrade' after getting the good report.

Brakes are 90%.

Little rust on the tail gate - nowhere else.

Interior is in GREAT condition - no rips or wear to speak of. Heated seats work famously.

Truck runs great - had the usual oil consumption of ~1 quart every 3 - 3.5K Seems better now I am running Mobil 1 10-40. Would be even better if I went to 20-50, per Toyota's recommendation for the rest of the world.

Highway driving?

Looks like an awesome truck - and apparently very capable off road. I read about the build and I'm impressed. I'm looking to consolidate my car and my '72 Scout into a single vehicle (garage seems to get smaller every year).

Would you recommend this as a reasonable (or slightly unreasonable) DD? I live in northern Nevada and although there's a ton of desert out here, there are a lot of highway miles on my occasional trips to civilization. How is it on the road? What kind of mpg are you seeing with the mods?

Posting here instead of PM in case anyone else has thoughts on the question. I'm new to the forums and I appreciate any wisdom you can provide.

The Land Cruisers are known for their durability and their luxury. Not necessarily good MPG. I bough this truck with the notion of going back to Alaska for a two year contract. Hence the rapid build. My intention was to drive it there, pulling a small trailer. Here in Colorado I have a very long commute in mountain country. It is comfy and dependable and gets about 13.7 while doing it. It is my daily driver now.

Here in Colorado I have a very long commute in mountain country.

That is painful in a naturally aspirated 80 with mods. I'd consider a super charger a must for regular long mileage duty in the High Country.
