The Portal's oft-referenced credo--"It's not the vehicle that makes the difference, it's the adventure"--seems to make it appropriate to cite the current availability of Tatoosh, accidental zillionaire Paul Allen's smaller yacht, which is now on the resale market. This is semi-old news, since it went up for sale in May, but I somehow didn't get the announcement.

Tatoosh is about a hundred feet shorter than Mr. Allen's larger yacht, Octopus, and since we've had a lot of ExPo threads about the merits of smaller, more nimble vehicles recently, perhaps this might be just the thing.

Seriously (well, a little), I posted this because it's cool to look at the pictures to see the impressive engineering and craftsmanship. Besides, it was either post it here or in the Joke of the Day thread.

However, if you're having trouble funding the next tank of gas for your Cherokee, you might need to give this a pass; a fillup of the 100,000+ gallon tankage would be quite a financial drain. (Looks like it gets about 25 gallons to the mile, even worse than my Unimog camper.)

Not mine, no connection, don't know the guy, yada, yada . . . :)

The apparently mythical exchange of F. Scott Fitzgerald remarking "The rich are different from you and me," to which Ernest Hemingway was quoted as saying, "Yes, they have more money," would seem to apply here. :sombrero:

Not to be a nerdly but the flow rate on yachts is measured GPH-or Gallons per hour-and that's an average figure based on 3/4 throttle with full generators. To give you an idea of the crazy money these guys spend-Ft Lauderdale built a super yacht dock/center after there data showed the owners of these ships spend on average 1.5 mill per visit. If you'ld like the cherry job of the deal-become a private captain. Live aboard or in the dock side condo provided by the owner, all room and board covered while aboard, travel the world on another persons dime and get paid on average $150k

I think that "dingy" on the side runs about $800k!

You know it's a nice boat when even the "Dingy" is WAY out of most people's price range. That's just ridiculous.

Now you're thinking! The helicopter will be perfect to take them that last bit and in a pinch the generators on the yacht can power the main house at least.

I almost bought it but it didn't have a drive on ramp and garage for my expedition vehicle. That was a deal breaker. Oh well I want something a little bigger anyway. I will just have to have my people keep looking. :xxrotflma

Looks nice, but does it have lockers? At least it already has a long range aux fuel tank installed.

Victoria, BC Canada, ( my home town) gets a quite a few of those type of "boats" during the year. I even think to remember this one... :coffee:

I think he also owns one of our bigger islands here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moresby_Island_(Gulf_Islands) As I have been kayaking around there for several years, I know first hand that this island is very well guarded! You can't even pull up on the beach for a break without getting chased off by some big guys....

You know, I never bu something unless they show all sides of the boat in the photos. Notice thye only shw the starboard side? What are they hiding? Drunk one day, the captains mate slammed it into an iceberg, so now it has a huge gash down that side perhaps? I do not know, but clearly they are hiding something!

as wretchedly excessive as things of this ilk are, and i do believe they are, the saving grace is in the jobs (read: mortgages paid, kids fed, et cetera) created by the folks who have the $$$ to buy and have them maintained
