Started tacking up the new turbo manifold, i was'nt happy with the old one.

Well done Alan.....excellent use of the steampipe bends. That's the way to do it.

Are those flanges laser cut or did you bring yourself home a new heavy guage profile cutter?? :)

it's a TD06SL2-20G compressor wheel 52.5/68mm 25G turbine wheel 54.1/61mm 11 blade 3"inlet 2" outlet 3" v band exhaust out. T3 flange.

hi john, i was going to say i cut it out with a hacksaw and file but no one would believe me:)
no i took a drawing to the local laser cutters and got them to cut it out of 12mm steel, very cheap! i got two cut out just in case! the have it on file now so if anyone needs one call me.
Yeep the steam pipe fittings work well, i will take more pic's its just the camera card was full at the time.

Hi Alan,
TD06 sounds like a big turbo for the little 3.9..
What's the cm2 A/R on the turbine hsing?
I assume its not gated, will you run ext gate or free-float?
I expect you'll have to fuel the crap outa it to make it spool at all, but hope it works well for ya.
Andrew.

the motor is a 4.2 litre, after discussing it with the people from Garret at SEMA it is what was recommended, no waste gate, the old turbo was bigger and had no wastegate, also the new turbo size is also recommended for 4.2 patrols as an upgrade.

Its the same size turbo that the subaru/evo guys use if they are aiming for the 300-350hp at the wheels. I think it will be fine.

finished the manifold today and bolted all up with the turbo, i was surprised how easy it was to make the manifold so if your considering making your own it's not that hard.

Hi Alan,

Mate , that looks great. What have you done under the square flange for the turbo......where it flares out a bit....is that two 75mm/50mm reducers back to back and you just fed number 3 into them???

alan

Explorer
yeep just two reducers back to back, not the ideal manifold but there's no room for fancy piping.

So Alan... did you polish the internals of the manifold and match port it for that extra 0.3% more horsepower? ;)

You should have scared those seagulls away before you started welding alan
or spent a couple of minutes with the dremel for that mirror finish look
or better still if there was ever a reason to go buy a decent TIG this was it

alan

i did think about grinding down the welds but it's a truck! and it would only weaken the welds, i do have a TIG but it's a slow process, i also thought about painting the manifold beige but i knew i would pay the price:)
