Gallivanter: An Ominous Beginning and an Optimistic Future

I got lost in all the details but the whole issue could have been avoided if you had gotten the BOM# from the salvage yard. They you could look up the axle in minutiae and know exactly what was in it before buying it. I get the frustration part but I also see how the operator made a mistake as well. Always a risk when you can't go to a pick-a-part or the like and inspect the part yourself.

The BOM number is stamped just like the gear ratio. Also, you have to remember I started from absolute square one on this project and this was my first experience buying an axle. I had been looking for awhile locally as that would have been my preference. But it was now crunch time and I needed forward progress. I did everything right to verify what I should have gotten.

I would think someone verifying on three separate occasions that it had 3:73 gears would negate the need of a BOM#. I know I would have taken someones word if especially asked and they answered the question multiple times the same way.

A salvage yard is in the business and should know what they have. The gear ratio is stamped right next to the BOM. I can't see why the customer should have to learn how to decoded the serial number when the seller should know how to do that. The seller ****ed this one up, plain and simple.

True dat. But there is always a risk in buying used parts, especially when you don't physically pick it up yourself and inspect it. The blame game, however, benefits nobody and certainly has derailed what had been an awesome build thread. Rise from the ashes Gallivanter and keep the rubber side down:)

4.30s instead of 3.73s is a freaking dream come true! And the fact that they screwed it up so they have to help you out is a win win in my book. Can't wait to see how this unfolds...

Gonna be in your neck of the woods on Friday 6-9. Hope you can make it. I'd love to meet you!

Hey I am terribly sorry for my post. I was in a real rotten mood that day and everything was setting me off. I apologize. I didn't mean to derail this thread. I have enjoyed it from the beginning and am looking forward to more of it.

I put 600 miles on this weekend and Gallivanter went on the first adventure rafting for Lochsa River Maddness. It's where a bunch of people meetup to drink excessively and run huge whitewater. Sounds like a good combo right? When I left on the trip, I only had 143 miles so far on this van and conversion and I was still working bugs out right before I left.

The van performed near flawlessly! Finally! This MG coil over rides so so so nice. I'm stoked beyond words. I really need to get this story caught up so I can tell this little part of the story on the first adventure.
