Garmin Etrex

a boat that I just bought came with a Garmin Etrex. are these any good, worth keeping or should I upgrade to something better? it seems pretty basic, no street maps.

They work. Whether it's enough for you really depends on what you want to do. Seems to me on a boat you might want something with nav charts (unless it's a boat used on small lakes ?), rather than street maps

What version of ETrex? Vista, Summit, etc.?

My Vista has been pretty good, though the screen is starting to fail after about 4 years of use.

it is the yellow one, all it says is Etrex

Yeah, the basic eTrex will have limited use as it has no base maps and a clunky interface. I have one for a back-up unit.
