Make that three. I have the crappy spedo only dash right now, so without date, gallons and odo reading, I've got nothing...

IUsed to be when I sold or traded a vehicle I'd leave the mileage book in the glovebox, thinking the next owner would use it, but then I realized that I'm the only person who really cares about this stuff so I started keeping them.
Not the only one. I record miles, gallons, date and service station. I try to use the same filling station and pump whenever I can, but in reality I end up mostly using one of three stations, although I do typically use the same pump at each. I also keep a database at home that has the record and notes on every service I do on the car, what I did, parts and part numbers used, etc. Now that I assumed was pretty pathetic.

I keep these type of log book records too... Not only MPG data but all service, modifications, etc.

I have kept a log book on every vehicle I have owned since about 1992, and on a few other cars before that as well. Even have one for my 2001 BMW GS moto. I have every fill-up and MPG figures for my 1996 F350 (diesel) since new, but don't have it in a database I can share.

I will post some MPG figures from my 4Runner soon. The spikes and lows may surprise you :)

Tire Size: 255/85R16
Gearing: 3.73 (stock)
Weight (if known or approx): Bone Stock: 4,520 Current: 5,440

On highway MPG:

Original stock baseline, repeatable flat freeway test loop @2,433-miles: 55.8-miles, 65-MPH (66-indicated) 20.94 MPG. Computer/PCM display claimed 22.6-MPG.

Since all my modifications/weight I have yet to repeat the above test, but think it will be close to 17-18-MPG. Odometer error is known and factored in. A few recent, interesting mostly freeway/highway trips yielded the following:

Trip from Reno to Eugene OR, then over to the Oregon coast, and then back to Reno. Total miles 1,199-miles. Trip average MPG- 17.808. High was the first leg of the trip at 19.41, low was 16.99

Regional highway trip at 60-70 MPH (depending on speed limits), 109.7-miles 19.84-MPG.

Total Trip MPG for my 2007 ExPo Trophy trip, includes:

Towing Chaser and Gross Combined weight of 7,840, off-highway, and a high-speed return trip home (all in one day). Total Miles: 1,808-miles MPG-11.82

In-town & freeway/mixed miles MPG ranges between 12.5 - 15.5

Off highway MPG:

Just like city/in-town driving there are far too many variables to give good comparable numbers, and my car is too new for me to have a real feel for different types of off-highway MPG I may get. Having said that...

My first 4x4 trip pulling the Chaser, not far from home & only a 30-mile round trip, almost all crawling in low-range, the PCM indicated 4.0 MPG going up the mountain, and it rose to 5.9 when we drove down the other side and as our speed increased a bit. That was probably pretty close/accurate, but I didn't fill up until I had driven a couple hundred miles.

Currently, for trips towing the Chaser and general mixed on/off-highway travel I'm figuring total trip fuel cost using 10-MPG. I’m hoping that turns out to be a bit pessimistic.

I have been contemplating getting rid of the Power Wagon just due to the gas prices and poor MPG I'm getting, and I have been thinking of a 4Runner. Probably a V6

Those interested in making judgements from this thread should take into account that no 2 users will get the same mileage due to 2 reasons
1) a drivers aggressiveness or lack of (pretty obvious)
2) where a driver points his vehicle. (A driver navigating rural highways at 60-65mph will do great compared to a driver driving the interstate system at 80+mph

Original motor 2.5l I-4, carbureted. Got 10mpg on and off road. Made an asthmatic 110hp. Maybe.

Now with 5.0l Ford V-8 from 1991 Mustang, Edelbrock heads and intake, JBA headers, unbalanced dual exhaust, 37" Boggers, 4.86 gears, etc. Now makes somewhere around 300hp and gets never less than 10 under competition conditions, 12 to 13 mpg generally with mixed off-road and occassional on-road transportation to trails, and 14 on the highway over longer hauls.

Things have been so much modified that there is really no basis for comparison to any other vehicle I suppose, but considering the weight (2.25 metric tons), the Boggers and the heavy right foot, 10 to 14 mpg isn't really all that bad.

Gearing: 3.54 :(
Weight (if known or approx): DTR weight 5700lbs
On highway MPG: 12-14
Off highway MPG: 5-10.

Best results by staying out of OD, highway cruising speed ~65mph, 2100RPM or so. Increase my milage by about 5-10% by switching to the 235/85/16 BFG A/T's from 31x10.50 Goodyear Wrangler highway rib.
I get 1-2 mpg better then a similar truck with the 4bbl Holley.

Nice ride, always been an IH fan. Rare 5-speed option?

Rare for a 1/2 ton Travelall, actually for any Travelall to have a 5 speed.
3/4, 1 ton pickups, reasonably common. I'm ditching the T-34 OD for a T-36 direct drive 5 speed when I put a clutch in it, move the gear range down a bit, where I use it.
